The building between the Jameson Inn and Outback Steakhouse, which has been the venue for about a dozen restaurants and clubs, has a new sign -- French Quarter. Anyone familiar with what's happening.

I read the French Quarter will be a cajun style restaurant. Opening scheduled about 17 July. Probably won't be in town for the opening, but may try it later,
I think that location is cursed!

SHEFFIELD — City Council members Monday approved a restaurant liquor license for The French Quarter, a new restaurant that will specialize in Cajun and French Creole cuisine.
The restaurant is at 4840 Hatch Blvd. between the Outback Steakhouse and Jameson Inn in what was once Faces and the Sports Rock Cafe.
“We’re glad to have you,” Mayor Ian Sanford told owners Chuck Causey and Walt O’Brien. “It looks good. We appreciate your hard work.”
O’Brien said the restaurant will open July 17 and offer a limited menu through the W.C. Handy Music Festival. After the festival, The French Quarter will offer its full menu.
O’Brien said they added all new kitchen appliances and painted the interior and added new flooring. Porceline tiles at the entrance will feature the fleur de lis design, and they also added a mantle dating back to the 1800s.
The council also approved a special events liquor license for a pair of “street parties” July 20 and 24 in conjunction with the music festival.
Sanford explained the noise must be kept at a certain decibel level because of the restaurant’s proximity to a residential area. O’Brien said they built a 10-foot-high fence around the outdoor patio which should help.
The owners agreed to abide by whatever rules the city has in place.
The council also asked that parties end at 11 p.m. on Monday and midnight on Friday.
Residents have complained about loud music emanating from the patio area when the building was used primarily as a lounge, and police responded several times to noise complaints.
Sanford said the city would allow the restaurant one opportunity to reduce the volume if it’s disturbing nearby residents. He said the city would not want to make a second request.
In other business, the council:
- presented yard of the month awards to: District 1, Jay Wicks, 1918 Tressie St.; District 2; Joe and Darlene Malone, 2508 Hatch Blvd.; District 3, Eric and Melissa Denton, 515 Park Blvd.; District 4, Dallas Vaughn902 E. 20th St.; District 5, Vera Schramm, 108 Rivermont Drive;
- approved employing Kevin Patrick in the Fire Department;
- approved paying $2,900 to Jim South for concrete sidewalk and curb work on Raleigh Avenue;
- approved a $1,000 appropriation to the Alternative Choices or ACES program;
- approved a $500 donation to help the Sheffield Dixie Youth 11 and 12-year-old girls softball team attend the state championships in Gadsden; and
- approved a $1,990 expense for Police Department supplies and $869 for a new computer tower for the department’s administrative assistant.
