There is a place called Jack-o-lantern farms in Muscle Shoals who grows Hydroponic lettuces, and tomatos...they have other produce also, along with goat cheese, rabbit, and freshly stone ground meal, and flour... If you are going north on Woodward and cross over 2nd street into Sheffield, it will be the first road on the right(into TVA Reservation) just pass the railroad tracks...turn right and go to the second pave road,(you will see the greenhouses)there is a small sign. The farmers market is open Thursdays 4-7 PM and Saturdays 9am to 2pm..
According to Steve Carpenter, who is one of the owners, they list their items as Naturally Grown, instead of Organic..Why? because the little Organic label cost $50,000.00 from our Federal Government. (you ever wonder why they set the fee so high..? can we all say corporation protection from the small individual growers)There phone number is 386-2335.
Kountry Eggs
If you are ever headed West on Highway 72 west going toward Memphis...just as you go through Corinth, Miss , about 5-6 miles on your left, you will see a large sign selling Country Eggs.
Mrs. Hazel Phillips and her husband sell fresh range chickens and country eggs out of their home. The laying hens are fed only five grains, and given no supplements or antibodics. So the eggs are as natural as mother earth can produce. The eggs are so pure, that sometimes she has several "Green Shell Eggs". I have bought from her several times and the eggs are delicious...(no comparison to mass produced eggs) you get the taste that was common years ago from freshly raised farm eggs.... Their number is 662-287-2601, call before you go to see if they have not sold out.
I have always wanted chickens so I could have fresh eggs! We used tolive in rural Ohio, right down the road from the Amish. I always got my eggs from them. There was no comparison to store bought.

Do you think there is a large enough market in the Shoals for Organic or Natural Grown Herbs/veggies? Right now I grow all my own herbs and share with neighbors, but I'm thinking of branching out a bit.

During the spring and summer months, Sherry Campbell hosts the Farmers Market at Spring Park in Tuscumbia. Only local grown produce can be sold at the market. There is a hugh demand for good local grown items such as you mention. I would encourage you to contact Sherry at scampbell@shoalsec.com for full information.
There is nothing as good as homegrown beef, pork, chicken, ect. This thread has got me thinking of buying some chickens and building a chicken coop. My late wife's son-in-law bought a few chicks and built a little coop with nesting boxes. The eggs were better than store bought but since the chickens were not free ranging and feed laying mash, they were not as good as we used to have when Mom would send me to the barn to "rob" some eggs.
TC. I talked to my neighbor and she said since it had gotten so cold that her chickens were barely laying enough for her to supply her regular customers and that right now she did not have any extra to spare, but that when it got warmer that they would start laying lots more and then she will let me know. I will then let you know.
