I've already got the Baptist mad at me, might as well go for the "evangelicals" too! If you have HBO, I hope you get to see the documentary FRIENDS OF GOD! I am 14 minutes into the program and guess who the first interview was with? Ted Haggerty. And he ACTUALLY said there is no sex like "born again" sex! Wonder what he meant? It goes down hill from there, now they are showing "born again" wrestlers. WAKE UP PEOPLE! THE DOG

Thought I would do a follow up now that this program is finished. As I said, if you have HBO look for the re-run. You may like it, you may hate it, I just think it is SCARY! The first part with Haggerty was shot before he "came out", the rest with Jerry Falwell was predictable (Republican and ban abortion) the most disturbing was a movement that is started for young people called "Battlecry" There are rallies complete with Christian rock and hate speech that is reminded me of Hitler youth. I'm not kidding, this stuff is makes The Shoals and Six Flags over Jesus look tame! The dog is gonna curl up tight tonight, this was worse than a horror movie. THE DOG
Lets see why would Nancy Pelosi's daughter want to make a film in aimed at making fun of evangelical Christians? Could it be intended to paint all conservative republicans as religious nuts?

Why would HBO air the film? Could they have a political agenda?

Why would the "dog" promote it? Is there a correlation between movie and the 3 left wing movies he has so kindly reviewed for us?
The evangelical movement was started by a black street preacher around 1900. Its sort of new compaired to the traditionally mainstream religious denominations - the Baptists started in the 19th century, the Methodists in the 18th century, Lutherans before that, Episcopals in the 1500s. It seems to me that the Evangelicals are making it up as they go. Their fundalmentalism is a bit concerning to many people and there appears to be a backlash at the moment, in part due to their politicism.

Three things:

1. Quote the "hate speech" that was used. It doesn't count if they are the nuts from Westboro.

2. Why do you hate Christians so much?

3. You are not really a dog. It is neither cute nor funny.

Fundalmentalism scares us all over the world - except right here at home.
Its not a matter of "hating Christians" - its a matter of civil discourse. One can disagree with Evangelicals without hating them. It is within our rights to not beleave the way you do - and say so.

I didn't know Nancy Pelosi daughter was the producer? Really? Did you see the documentary? There was no fun made of evangelicals in it, mainly by me, I mean come on Ted Haggerty saying there is no sex like "born again" sex then outed? You can't make this stuff up. I don't know what all I have reviewed, I just try to relate stuff I like and YES I am more of a democrat than republican but if the truth was known I think both parties have failed and am waiting on something new. I like the Green Party, call me all the names associated. Man, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!, I knew I would piss someone off with this! LOL THE DOG

I just can't lend credence to someone that barks and growls, actually as a form of communication, then refers to themself as 'the dog'.

I can't give much credit to ANYBODY if I don't know their real identity!!!

It is true, Nancy Pelosi's daughter is the producer.....she was interviewed about it last Friday I believe on Hannity and Colmes.....

And yes, I do question her motif behind it. I do think that sadly, some religious folks out there make total idiots of themselves...i.e. the snake handler sects up in Appalacia.

Why would Nancy Pelosi's daughter do a documentary on George Bush?
"Alexandra Pelosi began her career in TV covering politics in Washington, D.C., and subsequently served as a network news producer for seven years. For her first film, 2000's Emmy®-winning HBO documentary "Journeys with George," she spent 18 months on the campaign trail with future president George Bush." HBO

Please note, "Journeys with George" appeared the year GW was Elected PRESIDENT. (assuming that he was actually elected)

Clearly there are those who would piggy-back on Jesus/God/The Lord/Bible for personal gain. This exposes some of that, along with some deceit.

I did see this doc and found it to be, very bland. More objective than I thought, esp coming from Pelosi's daughter. It just pointed out things that, if we pay attention, we already know.

Fundamentalist Christians use the Bible as their sole authority. Anything else is suspect at best - satanic at worst. If you wish to mount a good defense, you must use their own "authoritative" book against them. You might think such a defense would be impossible, but it's not. Remember, Fundamentalists use a made-truth, one of their own creation, and despite their claims to the contrary, the Bible often contradicts their point of view. It happens because most Fundamentalists don't actually read it for themselves. The Bible, therefore, becomes the perfect weapon to use against them.

For each of the following "arguments" put forth by Fundamentalists, you'll find a biblical argument that can be used to defend yourself against their attacks. Use them liberally. Enjoy the results. But remember to offer your friendship when the walls begin to fall. If you use these tactics to destroy someone, you should be there to help them rise from the ruins.
Back in the mid 80's when Reagan and the Right Wing were in power and pushing these polices of war abd greed as being good and blaming the poor for our problems I wrote a letter to my local paper saying that the fundamentalist Christian have shown us that Jesus had it all wrong. Helping people is actually hurting them.

And when he said Blessed are the peace makers he was wrong, it was really blessed are the guns and the armies and our missiles, which are the peace makers, as Reagan called them.

And when he was dividing the loves of bread and fish to the people when they were hungry during one of his sermons he said, "Who's going to pay for all this?

The story of Jesus is being played out in every generation where the people reject the real teachings and embrace the "Golden Cafe."

If Jesus came back today the fundamentalists would crucify him again.

Jesus was a good example, If you speak out like Jesus Spoke out on behalf of the poor and for justice and against war and greed they will crucify you.

Supurbly well said.
Watched it last night. Noticed Falwell said "I don't tell people who to vote for" then at least on 2 occasions he was on film doing exactelly that. I guess lieing is ok.
I also noticed the brain washing of the little kids on the subject of evolution.
All fundamentalist want everybody to live in the scientific 1st century. Dosen't matter whether it is Christian, Islam, or what.

Nash we have agreement again. I think Osama Bin Laden is a pretty poor example of a Muslim. And he is a lot worse Muslim than Falwell is Christian.

Do you know what happens when a Secular Humanist marries a Religious Lutheran? Their Daughter grows up to be an Episcopal Priest.

Vision America Can’t Decide If It Likes “Friends of God”
Vision America is angry about the new Alexandra Pelosi documentary “Friends of God,” a documentary airing on HBO that takes a look at the evangelical movement and, as the New York Times stated, serves as a “colorful reminder of how George W. Bush became president, why Fox News has the highest ratings of any 24-hour cable news network and why Democrats didn’t win an even greater landslide in the 2006 elections.”

Vision America’s Rick Scarborough reportedly appears in the documentary and is not happy about it:

The special, directed by Alexandra Pelosi (daughter of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi), focuses on every oddity imaginable -- including "Christian wrestling" and "Christian miniature golf" -- to make 80 million Americans from all walks of life seem freakish.

"I wasn't even aware that such things existed until someone alerted me that I was in the documentary and I began investigating it," Scarborough said.

"If you choose to watch 'Friends of God,' understand that what you are seeing is an attempt to denigrate evangelical Christians. Take it for what it is -- a cleverly packaged assault, designed to undermine the valuable contributions to our country of 80 million Bible-believing Americans," Scarborough cautioned.

Driving home from work I heard a program on WBAI radio about a documentary somebody made entitled "Camp Jesus." It's about this evangelical camp of young kids gp who preach. The excerpts I herd are scary and serious. These people are on the same level as the Taliban. Talk about 15th century.

Hope Pelosi's film is as accurate as "Jesus Camp." The American people, myself included, really know little about this movement, although I have followed this somewhat and have a better idea than most. These kinds of movements have always been with us and have risen and fallen in popularity but the dangerous thing now is that they are now organized politically, and we our a country that's is economically going down the tubes. Hard times are growing and will get worse. A dangerous mix. A recipe for scapegoats, extremism and Fascism.

Sort of an upsetting documentary. Sad to hear these kinds of things kids are being taught. They are really being taught to hate, in the name of Jesus. Pledging allegiance to a "Christian Flag" and a "Christian Nation" and warping and twisting things.

We need to educate people about these groups and offer real solutions to our problems. Not "superstition," "self righteousness" and hate.
