Chick, my Friend,

How do you feel that God has deceived YOU?

You deny Him, yet defame His name.  And, although He has never promised you anything -- except the chance to have a joyful eternal life in Christ, if you so choose -- you say He has deceived many people.  How?

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

First of all, the complaint of Jeremiah to God is just that--JEREMIAH'S complaint.  To read it in isolation as a correct characterization of God's treatment of Jeremiah is to miss the point.  Another notable Old Testament figure, Job, made all kinds of complaints against his treatment by God, but that does not validate Job's complaints; it is simply a record of HIS perceptions.

There is a lot of informed commentary on Jeremiah 20:7, which can be read at this link for those who are interested in actually studying the verse within its context.  If, however some of you still insist on treating the  verse simplistically and reading  it naively as an actual indictment of God, that is your privilege.  Scholarship would suggest the first course of action.

Contendah laid it out correctly. God didn't deceive Jeremiah, you might call

it duped.

Writing in the Word Biblical Commentary (vol. 26, Jeremiah 1-25),

Joel Drinkard writes:

The verb pathah is variously translated as "deceive, seduce, persuade." . . .

God warned Jeremiah about the dangers would face as a prophet.

Found right at the beginning of the book of Jeremiah, 1: 18-19

And I, behold, I make you this day a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests, and the people of the land. They will fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you, says the Lord, to deliver you."

Vic, my Friend,

Scripture tells us that God will not test us - and "duping" a person would be the same.  God will allow us to be tested, but He Himself will not test us, or so Scripture says.

God allowed Job to be tested, drastically, by Satan - but, God was still in control and restored faithful Job.

We test and dupe ourselves by giving in to the secular world and its desires.  But, regardless of what mess we create for ourselves -- God will restore those in His family, i.e., believers.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Even while the forum Troll seduces his homeless friends at the park, he's on here trying to persuade people he's a Christian while everyone that reads here knows what a deceiver he really is. The majority of us are not as stupid as he thinks we are.
