I saw a show the other day about Fort Knox and America's Gold reserve.  Problem is that many believe that there is no longer any Gold at Fort Knox and that our politicians and government has sold off and gotten rid of the Gold that we once had but is keeping it under wraps and secret that it's no longer there.  The Gold is supposed to be our Nation's backup supporting our currency and providing our Nation's financial stability so it's very important to know it's there and safe.

Frankly there are only a very few people that would, or could, know the truth of whether or not the Gold reserves are in tact and there.  Sadly if there are many that feel that there is no longer any Gold kept there and that our politicians have sold it off over the years.  I think Americans are entitled to know what our Government has done, if anything, to the Gold but sadly it's one of the best kept secrets our nation has.  If it's there the question is why not at least allow some specifically chosen people to tour the facility and verify that the Gold is indeed there.  If not then the American people should be able to know who sold it an why.

Other's say it's best not to know because if it is true that our nation's Gold reserves are depleted and sold that it would undermine our nation's financial stability.  I'm wondering what stability as it is because I believe we already are on shaky ground.  Maybe not knowing is better after all because if it was revealed to be gone that very possibly would cause a rush on the banks and put us in an immediate depression.  Still though if it's gone the ones that are responsible should be identified and the people made aware of just how financially safe our Nation is in today's global economy.

Then again maybe there is some validity in the old saying "Ignorance is bliss".

That was originally a rumor from the Birchers in the sixties.  Supposedly, at the behest of the Rockefeller family, a tunnel was dug to the depository and the gold trucked out.  The rumor got so much traction that congress authorized a special audit.  That included members of congress observing the count. A couple of bars were removed by members of congress to be assayed.  Everything was found to be in order.

If, such a large amount of gold hit the commodities market, the price drop would be dramatic.

Actually my curiosity did not stem from anything in the 1960's but the 2010's when there was a few documentaries about Fort Knox did and aired.  Some of the speculation came from an investigative series investigating the rumor that the Gold no longer was there at Fort Knox and as a part of that they interviewed some of the relatives of workers and it was information gleaned from them that sparked the question and concern.  Actual employees would not speak on camera or make any comments about anything related to Fort Knox.

Just pointing out this is a recycled conspiracy theory that's been around for ages.
