I've heard that one reason there are so many Canada Geese is/are that the meat is actually difficult to eat because it is very greasey almost to the point of being slimey. I work along Hwy 280, just south of Birmingham and there are so many of them that traffic sometimes comes to a halt because the geese are lined up crossing the highway and no one wants to be seen running over them. They are now feeding in the tall grasses along the highway and in the medians and don't even bother to look when they decide it is time to cross the highway. I saw 4-5 of them flying low last fall and they suddenly turned (while still in formation) and flew right into the side of a 12 story building and slid down the side of the building. It was a shock to see that.
I think they should have a new festival called Duck Days or Duck/Goose Day. You could take turns for a dollar shooting at them. If you kill one, then it could be cooked to order for a small fee. Everybody comes out on this deal. Or if you combined it with the Indian Festival, they could show how shooting bow and arrows really worked for killing game.
