GOP Dismayed by Obama’s Strong Performance, Say it Was a ‘Mistake’ to Let Cameras Roll.

Republicans were fired up and ready to go for their conversation with President Obama at their annual retreat today. According to the New York Times, members of the conservative Republican House Conference said they were “itching to quiz the president and present their policy ideas rather than listen to another lofty presidential address.” Although such sessions generally occur behind closed doors, Republicans agreed to open it up after the White House said it was willing to do so. However, after Obama’s strong performance, some Republicans are now regretting that decision. As Luke Russert reported on MSNBC:

''Freedom of the press is not an end in itself but a means to the end of [achieving] a free society.”

Obviously if you agree with President Obama you're going to say he did a good job, and if you don't agree with him then you'll say he did a bad job. So instead of trying to reconcile two irreconcilable points of view, let me just applaud the format of this whole thing.

The President went and spoke directly to the opposition party and took their questions, acknowledging their arguments and laying out why he disagrees with them. It was real, actual debate instead of the political theater we're all used to, and it was the closest thing to question time with the Prime Minister I can remember in this country. More of this kind of thing, please. It's healthy for our democracy.
Who stated "itching to squeeze the President"?
And, who stated off the record "It was a mistake to let the cameras roll like that. We should not have done that"?
I would like to have better information other than some Amanda Terkel and Tom Cole "statement". Give me actual names.

If I told you "the sky is falling" , would you post it for fact?

Seriously? That's what you derived from that diatribe? It seemed more like his best imitation of Hugo Chavez... at least Hugo is out in the open as to what he is... unlike Obama who has berated those he says implied he was a Bolshevik... funny thing is HE NEVER OUTRIGHT DENIED IT!

MSNBC?? MSNBC? That's the best you can do?

Even CNN, in their coverage of the event, says nothing about this -- though they offer this:
quote:
Obama conceded there's been a failure on his part to "try to foster better communications even if there's disagreement."

The MSNBC spin is wishful thinking...

You can say the same about that fox news station you watch, that bring on spin and lies.

If we knew the name, then it wouldn't be off the record.

I also noticed that the quote above was edited.

This is what Luke Russert said on MSNBC:

RUSSERT: Tom Cole — former head of the NRCC, congressman from Oklahoma — said, “He scored many points. He did really well.” Barack Obama, for an hour and a half, was able to refute every single Republican talking point used against him on the major issues of the day. In essence, it was almost like a debate where he was front and center for the majority of it. … One Republican said to me, off the record, behind closed doors: “It was a mistake that we allowed the cameras to roll like that. We should not have done that.”

And since people here don't seem to want to trust anything MSNBC had to say, why did Fox cut coverage of the meeting 20 minutes early?

If you missed it, here it is in it's entirety. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBuG2TdgMn0
