This should disturb everyone in how this attempt to illegally enter an establishment just by pure intimidation alone..

The Attorney General in a letter told Gov. Riley he was placing the State of Alabama in great Financial Danger from lawsuits, by going ahead and doing just what he did.

To place a contingency of troopers on private property without legal court documents indicates someone who is either an idiot, delusional or has simply allowed their Political Ego and Agenda to fog over their common sense..This within itself should lead to an impeachment hearing..

The next question is why would the commanding officers of a law enforcement unit put their men in a legal crossfire of the Gov. Office and the Attorney Generals Office, knowing that they do not have the proper court papers to be parked, or standing on someone's private property. To knowingly violate the law, in order to execute an illegal raid is to set ones organization up for severe civil penalty, if God forbid,a physical altercation had occurred and a civilian, employee or trooper got hurt, there would not have been any defense that would have stood up in any court of law.

The Commanders knowingly had their men trespass on property which they knowingly before hand, knew was illegal to do so..It is my opinion those commanders had every right to refuse that order if they knew the proper court documents were not in existence. To do so otherwise, in my mind was a direct violation of their oath to the people of this state, and that is uphold the laws of this state.
I don't believe I ever seen a clause of exception or but for, in that oath. I believe those commanders should be held liable by the Law Enforcement Community itself, as what they did smacked of BIG BROTHER at the highest...

I would love to see their defense..."Well!! Hu! Hu! the Governor told me to do it"

I felt sorry for those troopers who had to be there for the dog and pony show the governor set up that morning...what a waste of manpower and money...

First of all Trader, you haven't a clue of what happened.
Second, Troy King is a homer for the gambling interest and exactly represents what will happen to this state if we legalize gambling, corruption at the highest levels.

The Facts. In the Raid at Shorter Alasbama, this casino/bingo hall belongs to the infamous Milton McGregor. The troopers executing the raid DID IN FACT HAVE A SEARCH WARRANT. McGregor was tipped off about the raid (Think of that) and went to a judge and got an injuction to stop the search. That warrant is on hold until they go to court next week. The judge stated he wanted to talk to a "gambling expert" before proceeding with the raid.

At country crossing, there was a search warrant. They had done the same thing a few weeks ago and got an injunction to stop the raid. Meanwhile the warrant expired. It seems they are only good for a few days.
The plan was to send in an undercover officer to collect evidence of gambling, perform an arrest aND THEN RAID THE PLACE. This would not require a search warrant. Again, Country Crossing was tipped of as to the raid, and they closed their doors and would not allow anyone in. The troopers waited for the bingo hall to open, the owners refused to open it to the public. The standoff lasted till noon when the troopers left.

Now i have a question for you trader. If these bingo/slot machines are not illegal, why did they close their doors and not allow the police inside?
Let's clarify something here. Granted they did not have the proper paperwork to "raid" the establishment, the post by 'Trader' is not exactly accurate. The fact is that too many think that if they post their property as 'private', law enforcement cannot occupy it for any reason, this is not true. If knowledge of a crime exists, law enforcement can proceed onto your so called 'private' property! Before you strike back on this, check the laws.
jrc,
You are correct. As I stated, at Country Crossing, they took this route because the gambling industry has had the state tied up in court to prevent the ability to serve search warrants.
This is a way of getting around that and getting the evidence to convict of illegal activity.
It was a legal tactic, the only reason people are squealing iks because the gambling interest has the money to make it a big deal.

If they had done this to shuit down a meth lab, we would be applauding.

You go, hog!

You are setting the record straight and making these guardhouse lawyers look like the silly sorts they are. The pro-gambling types will stretch and strain the law and its interpretations just about any way they can to avoid realaity and advance gambling interests.
If True, and it probably is...MCgregor and any other should be charged with bribery...

Gaming is a business...simply that...it amazes me how a tight wedgie developes in some peoples crack over how other people spend their own money...
Personally, I think giving your money to some TV Evangilist is about as dumb as it gets...
I don't believe gambling is "inherently" corrupt. Its corrupting when a few people monopolize and control it. If gambling licenses were handed out like say liquor licenses and no one small group was in control the threat of corruption would be lessened.

It seems to me that the people of this state have spoken about gambling. The lottery was voted down big time, anti-gambling candidates win most of the time. Put it on the ballot again and it will get crushed again. Its tolerated only in a few forms and a few locales in Alabama period. Time to move on.

But those TV evangelists PROMISE you that if you send them money, you will get back far more than you give. The gambling industry only tells you that you MIGHT get more back than you bet. Which is best? Wouldn't you rather have that televangelist's guarantee? Of course you would--especially if you just fell off the turnip truck!
