The winter edition of the Oxford American magazine comes with two CDs.  This year's CD edition is dedicated to the music of Tennessee.  The discs are packed with great music--50 songs in all--by artists both famous and not-so-famous. There is something there for every musical taste.  The magazine itself has lots of biographical information on the artists.  All in all a great buy for $12.95, but when I bought mine at Books A Million in Florence today, there were only two left.

I yam what I yam and that's all I yam--but it is enough!

I would be interested in picking this up.   Do you know if it is still available?   I am also curious, did you mean this particular item was getting scarce or great music was?  Just curious because there is a lot of great music still out there.   Mostly it isn't played on the radio and well MTV hasn't played music in years, much less great music.   I still buy a lot of music, only on vinyl unless not offered in that format, but there is a lot of good stuff still out there.

My intended message was that it was getting scarce locally, with only a couple of copies remaining at BOM.  I can see why you asked for clarification, but yes, really great music is indeed getting scarce.  The entire hip-hop and rap scene produces absolutely nothing of artistic merit. The lyrics of much of modern pop are virtually devoid of literary value. "Contemporary Christian music" is mostly  tacky feel-good rubbish; where are you, Isaac Watts, now that you are so desperately needed?

We are in complete agreement on the current state of rap/hip hop.   That's never been my genre of choice to begin with, but I have liked some sparsely throughout my life.  There is a lot of good indie music out there, and Americana music.  Of course, I am still going back and getting my 90's favorites on vinyl as well.
