Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittendon pay dearly for their locker room gunslinging.

Guns do not belong in the locker room and bringing guns in there cost these gunners plenty.

"Arenas was forfeiting about $147,200 per game. Crittenton will lose about $13,435 per game from his $1.48 million salary."

Multiply each of those figures by 50 (number of games remaining in the NBA season)to obtain the total cost per gunslinger.

Commissioner Stern was not amused by certain post-gun comments and displays:

"Stern originally planned to follow his normal policy of waiting until the legal process was further along before acting, but handed down the initial suspension after Arenas joked about the gun situation on his Twitter page, then was photographed before a game in Philadelphia pointing his index fingers, as if they were guns, at his teammates." DUMB!

It ain't funny, Stern says, and now Arenas must feel the same every time he watches a Bullets game on TV and thinks about that $147,200 down the drain.

The Wizards(formerly the "BULLETS") issued a statement citing the action of former team owner Abe Pollin:

"It is widely known that Mr. Pollin took the extraordinary step of changing the team name from 'Bullets' to 'Wizards' in 1997 precisely to express his abhorrence of gun violence in our community. We hope that this negative situation can produce something positive by serving as a reminder that gun violence is a serious issue."

The first online comment on this article offers an interesting perspective:

"Lets face it from a real world perspective gents. Paying pro ball is a priviledge and not a right, plenty of guys can play ball who fell through the cracks for one reason or another. Secondly and I may get a bunch of flack for saying this, but the black guys (and I am a black guy) have a responsibility to hold on to that money and put it to work once we get those fat checks. It is an absolute abomination to keep coming up with ways to give that money back by shooting yourselves in the foot, raining dollar bills in a dingy nightclub or threating some teammate over a few hundred grand and just as dumb, buying a $4mill ring. Pleeze

If you are a black athlete making cash, it is incumbent upon you to be a good custodian of that wealth and remember there may be "snotty nose kids" black, white, hispanic whose lives you may be holding influence over too. You never see Jerrry Jones raining cash in da **** club or Bill Gates or any of the owners flashing a grill worth a $100 G's.

Gilbert you're lucky you are'nt getting a thirty year stretch like most brothers in your shoes would, or that your privileged posterior is'nt forced to be in Afghanistan riding a humvee getting shot at, instead of shooting some **** rubber ball.

Consider yourself lucky son its only $20 mil."

That was another hilarious liberal misconception that changing the name from "Bullets" to "Wizards" would change the gun culture in DC. I guess they didn't notice that banning tobacco advertising didn't stop smoking. I like the irony though. Instead of playing for the Celtics or the Hawks, these two simpletons just HAD TO BE on the team formerly known as the Bullets. Big Grin

Are you serious? The name wasn't changed for the purpose of trying to change the gun culture in DC. The owner changed the name to express his abhorrence to gun violence. I am sure he would have liked for that change to have affected the gun culture there, but it was done to express his sentiments. Guess what? Everything is not some conspiracy by liberals.

DHS, perhaps you have not followed the posts of kperk. Be advised that he finds no reason to be logical or factually correct in what he posts, so the kind of twaddle he put up above is sort of to be expected.

Quite obviously, Mr. Pollin's purpose in changing the team name was to express his personal abhorrence of the criminal gun culture. Pollin was a very intelligent man, far too intelligent to think that a name change like that would actually make any material change in that culture. I lived in the Washington area for several years, and I can verify that Abe Pollin was highly regarded as a citizen and philanthhropist. His motive relative to the name change was consistent with his own high regard for civility.

Here is Abe Pollin:
