Anyone know anything about it? Recommend it, not recommend it?

I wonder if there's any benefit from taking probiotics, both for humans and dogs.
From what I've read about Probiotics, there's a lot of health benefits to it.
As one can see from the above 3 posts, there is a lot of ignorance out there that could be remedied if the particular ignorami would just do about two minutes of Googling:

What do you want 'googled'? She asked if anyone on the forums had an opinion. The same with probiotics, I want someone on the forum that has used them to comment. Now, you, dear ignoramus, run google that.
I'm leery of holistic medicine as it started in the hippy dippy era of the late sixties. I would research any such therapy rigorously before using it. Probiotiics ??? If, my doc recommends it.

Opinions, standing alone, are a dime a dozen and overpriced at that. A sensible researcher of online information with a little discernment can self-educate better than someone who cruises an internet forum for "opinions."

I assume your reply is to Contendah, & his know it all comment was probably that all we had to do was google what we wanted to know or something along those lines? Ignore him, he's an azz, & he loves to argue, just like his counterpart.
You have to feel sorry for his wife, having to live with a perfectionist. Poor woman!

There's a lot of info & books just from the last few years & up until recently on the internet. What I've found is interesting for both Holistic medicine & Probiotics. I would love to talk to someone that's actually taken one or both to see how it's worked for them.
semi,
I can tell you my opinion about it and you can take it for what it is worth. Holistic medicine, in and of itself, is a rudimentary concept that takes the entire (or whole) body into consideration when considering a disease process. Some physicians, primarily those who trained in osteopathic medical schools, were taught this principle. The basic belief is that there is a cause and effect relationship that is integrated into the body. Fix one small problem and you may cure other larger ones.
I know it sounds obscure but look at it like this. Suppose you have a hiatal hernia. It rarely gives you trouble. You may not even know you have it. However, because you eat later at night, your hernia causes you to have regurgitation, or reflux, after you fall asleep. This leads to esophageal problems, or sore throat and hoarseness. It can even lead to waking up from a sound sleep and not being able to go back to sleep. Then the lack of sleep combined with the sore throat, hoarseness, or chest pain leads to more stress. which can lead to cardiac arrhythmias or palpitation. Now you go to the doctor, they do a throrough workup looking for heart disease since they are convinced that is what you have. All of the tests come back normal, but you continue to have the symptoms. The root of your problem is not a bad ticker, but a hiatal hernia. The symptoms can be contained with simple measures such as elevating the head of your bed, not eating 2 hours before bed, and avoiding certain foods.
The whole idea is that the body is a whole. What happens to one system affects another. A true physician who practices medicine in a holistic fashion knows this.
Now do not confuse what I am saying with some of the quackery which is out there. There are plenty of self described holistic practicioners who are not medically trained and can do more harm than good. If you really want a holistic approach to treatment find a board certified, professionally trained, doctor who will treat you.
Poor, weak semiannual chick. She has me blocked, or so she claims, but she just can't stand not to snipe at me based on indirect cues from posts by Bestworking. Maybe she should get back on the porch with the big dogs instead of tucking tail and hiding in the root cellar..
Semi, about a year ago I accidentally clicked on a probiotic site. They had a long list of "symptoms" which were signs of problems with your digestive health. I potentially had about 90% of these symptoms. They had a deal on a thirty day trial which I decided to try, just to see. I made sure that it was a reputable company - as best as I could tell - and that probiotics weren't going to kill me. They promised significant results within 30 days.
After thirty days, I can't say that any of my "symptoms" were any better, but my stool and bowel movements were very, very consistent and regular.

This was also my experience with them. I also tried them for a full 30 days.
Some of holistic practices have been shown to be good such as Chiropractors. I know for a fact that going to the Chiropractor vrs taking muscle relaxers is better for me. No Chiropractors cannot stop allergies, colds etc in my opinion but for back and neck alignment issues a good Chiropractor works best for me.
