You know, way back years ago, we didn't have mental health facilities spreaded throughout the state. We had one in each state. You didn't have to have a group of doctors to say that you were mentally ill. You only needed one. And if your family wanted to put you away, they could. But now, all that has changed, for the good. Can you imagine being in the state hospital in that time period and the type of treatment that you received? Most mental patients were mistreated.
Mental illness affects people of all classes. Whether you are low income, middle income, or high income. And you have people from all these classes that have kids taking prozac to whatever. I guess one of my questions would be is how come we have so many people on prozac and mental health drugs? And why doesn't the government investigate what's going on with that?
From low class to high class, the majority of mental patients pay for their mental health care from medicaid to medicare.
Have you been to a psychologist lately? Does your insurance cover seeing a psychologist if needed? Most insurances do not cover mental health. If you've got it, be thankful.
I did some research and talked to some people who have children at Riverbend. These people were middle class and higher class folks. Their children are on medicare, unable to work, because of their mental illness.
What do you think needs to be done about mental health care? Should we do away with them? I mean, after all, you pay taxes on it. And the reason I'm asking these questions is because I've heard so many people make fun and say we need to do away with it. You never know when an issue will affect you or a member of your family. You have no idea when you wake up in the morning if your son or daughter will tell you "hey, guess what, I'm gay". How would you react? Would you're views change? I know this has nothing to do with mental illness but some claim it is a mental illness. I disagree. I'm making a point about how an issue can affect you as well as the mental illness.
Anyway, I would like to have your comments on this. Please be serious because I think it's a serious problem and something we take for granted. And just remember, the government can put the hurt on facilities like Riverbend and mental care. Think about it.
