How Many Deaths in Iraq Before U.S. Churches Say Enough?

Robert Parham
01-02-07
How many more American troops and Iraqi civilians must die before America's churches speak a prophetic word to President Bush that violence only begets more violence and more violence is not an acceptable path forward?

How long before American Christians practice the Christianity of the one called Prince of Peace, who told his followers that peacemakers were the children of God and one disciple to put away his sword? How long, O God, how long?

On Sunday, the 3,000th American soldier died in Iraq. December became the third deadliest month of the war with 111 military fatalities, exceeded only by April 2004 with 135 deaths and November 2004 with 137 deaths.

More than 22,000 U.S. troops have been injured

Associated Press estimates that over 2,180 Iraqis were killed in December, the worst month for civilian deaths in 20 months. The average daily death rate in December was 75 people. Iraqi Body Count estimates civilian deaths between 52,297 and 57,871

And the dead horse beatings began again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and (whew) again!!!!!

Thanks Clown for the laugh!
Look at your own avitar...."this is not a gavel", indicating that religion has no place in the administration of law. Seems you've shot your own post down.

Seems I have gotten under your thin skin awful easily for you to resort to name calling. You post again and again what is essentially the same topic, never your own thoughts, but rather the cut and pasted ideas of someone else, and yet you resort to calling me a clown. You sir, meet my definition of an internet troll...you are only here to inflame and incite discord, not for any legitimate discussion. If you don't like my replies to your posts, put me on your ignore list, or just go away.

And, BTW, I have really THICK skin....it'll take a lot more than name calling to discourage me.
hey not true, I am curious myself now. WHY hasn't the religous leaders of our country done more than remind us to pray for our troops?

besides alacharger, you better be proud we HAVE the freedom to come here and beat ANY dead horse. That could very possibly not be the case in years to come.We are presently living thru watching freedoms striped from us decievingly done so in the name of "national security"

I'll defend to the death your right to beat the dead horse of your choice, just don't get upset when I label it "flogging a deceased equine". I have just as much freedom and right to my opinion as any other member here. If I want to relpy to an "end the war" posting with an an endorsement for car tires, it's my right, and I'll do so.

i do not care what you post ,where you post, you have not heard one word of argument from me on that subject.

I got an ointment to take care of that....only takes about two days Wink

You inferred that my post was "not true", although it had no direct impact on your opinion of the original post at all. If you are curious about why the religious leaders of our country haven't done more, go ahead and inquire. My own opinion is :

A)PBA54 is picking cut and paste topic to stir up controversy.
B)Churches have no dog in the race...they are to save souls....not interfere in partisan politics. The "Church and State" doctrine should work both ways.
C)Religious leaders should lead Churches, and leave political matters to politicians. As individual citizens, or as a lobbyist group they may address any matter they wish, but they should discard their status of association with a religious group at the door.
BECAUSE your "beating dead horse' is untrue concerning the topic of this post. We have NOT discussed religous leaders, churches, etc and their opnions, actions on the war.
Religous leaders may not belong in the political arena, but read a lil history, they have been all up in the politics of every nation since the beginning.
