After the Magna Carta, an Englishman's home was his castle, no matter how lowly. That gone by the boards.  Now, if one defends oneself, even in one's home, one is subject to arrest and prosecution.  And, the government in power is Conservative.  God shave the queen, if Labour was in power.

"A pensioner has been arrested after a suspected burglar was killed during a violent tussle at his home.

The 78-year-old was held on suspicion of murder after the 38-year-old died of his wounds in hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police said the struggle broke out after the pensioner, named locally as Richard Osborn-Brooks, found two men inside his home in South Park, Hither Green, south London shortly after midnight.

One of the burglars, who was armed with a screwdriver, forced the homeowner into his kitchen while his accomplice went upstairs.

Detectives believe a struggle then took place between "one of the males and the homeowner" and the 38-year-old intruder was stabbed in the upper body.

He was later found collapsed in nearby Further Green Road by paramedics from London Ambulance Service, who took him to a central London hospital where he died at 3.37am. Police were unable to confirm whether the suspect had been stabbed with the screwdriver.

The second suspect fled the scene before police arrived and is now being hunted by the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command."

The UK still produces men of strength and character such as the old guy who defended himself successfully. Unfortunately, the Queen's Bench barristers doesn't.

This is the end result of the leftie hoplophobes who fear armed good men. BTW, Londonistan's murder rate now exceeds NYC's.  While guns are mostly illegal, the murders were committed by knife and gun.

Don't cherry-pick.  Looks like due process will take its course.

Norman Brennan, a former police officer who represents victims’ interests, said police were required to arrest the pensioner in order to investigate whether he had acted in self defence.

But he said he would be “amazed” if he was prosecuted over the death.

“The law says that a person can use reasonable force when defending himself, his family or property. If the intruder is running away the threat has diminished but if that person stays where they are that’s an assault and if they are armed with a weapon then it would be regarded as aggravating circumstances,” said Mr Brennan.

He added:  “I cannot see any jury convicting someone in a case where the householder, for example, takes a knife and in a struggle with the burglar injures him.

Like US prosecutors, crown prosecution and Scotland Yard have digression.  The police could have simply issued him a caution and proceeded with the investigation.  The statement  concerning aggravating circumstances was to cool down more conservative voters. The present government is dancing on a razor's edge to stay in power.

Fair enough.  Let's say the police arrested George Zimmerman for the killing of Trayvon Martin, proceeded with caution, and let due process play out.  Would that have change things?  I mean, Black lives matter and then Blue lives matter, the so called anti-police agenda, etc. pretty much were born from this...Is our government dancing on razor's edge to stay in power?

Your deflection shield is on.   Arresting a 78 year old man, who defended himself inside his home is the thing - an overexertion of government power.  This isn't the first time the English/Welch based Scotland Yard has charged, prosecuted and imprisoned persons for defending themselves in their own homes from burglars.  In fact, the police instruct persons to sit quietly and not make eye contact as the thieves go thru their things.  So far, in Scotland, which has different laws and police, things haven't gone to such an extreme.

The good news is that the 78 year old pensioner will not be prosecuted.  The bad news is that persons unknown mourned the death of a vulture in human skin.  BTW, in England, a caution is a warning that one might be prosecuted, but is released without bail, or being jailed.  Numerous persons from the ME receive cautions.

"Henry Vincent, 37, died after being stabbed during an attempted burglary at the home of 78-year-old Richard Osborn-Brooks in Hither Green on Tuesday night. Mr. Osborn-Brooks was arrested on suspicion of murder after the botched raid but was later released following an outpouring of public sympathy for the pensioner. However, despite this, one mysterious person appears to have paid tribute to the career criminal, writing that he had a ‘heart of gold’ in the card.

Mr Osborn-Brooks had been arrested on suspicion of murder before being freed on bail following the incident on Tuesday. Nearly 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the investigation to be shelved, while more than £7,000 was raised to pay for Mr Osborn-Brooks legal costs. On Friday the Metropolitan Police said the pensioner would face no further action over Vincent’s death."
