Headline from the Daily Beast:

The Grammys Train Wreck: An Insult to Lou Reed, Hip-Hop, and Good Taste

http://www.thedailybeast.com/a...-and-good-taste.html

The headline is too narrowly focused.  Hip-Hop itself is an

Insult to Good Taste!

And the opening number, with Beyonce and all her erotic twitching, was an insult to decency.

I yam what I yam and that's all I yam--but it is enough!

Because I have not followed popular music for a long time and I wanted to see what kind of popular music is currently being produced and disseminated in our society.  I have heard and read things critical of rap, hip-hop and other modern genres, and I thought the Grammys would be a good place to see for myself what this stuff is all about. I was shocked at the corruption.

How could an Obama supporter possibly be shocked by corruption???

What is put on TV is slapped out there for the lowest common denominator who want to be shocked.  The cameras go where the dollars are, which is why Taylor Swift gets a front row seat, the  cameras regularly turn to her, and no one behind her tells her to sit the f* down when she stands and dances in the middle of a number.  It's like Tiger Wood coverage, even when he isn't winning and there is a much more exciting story on the course.

There is plenty of music that was celebrated that was exceptional.  Grammys to Rick Hall and The Civil War to name just two.

By mid-day Wednesday (1700 GMT), a petition on the White House website calling for the deportation of the Canadian-born teen idol had garnered 103,000 names -- easily surpassing the threshold of 100,000 signatures required for presidential consideration.

We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture," says the petition, created by one "J.A." in Detroit last Thursday, the day Bieber was busted in Miami Beach for impaired driving and illegal drag racing in a flashy Italian sports car.

"We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation's youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."

Well, one way of dealing with an "insulting" performer. Looks like we're stuck with the ones born here that exhibit as bad or worse behavior.

I am indeed shocked by corruption, but I am not at all shocked that you have elected to respond to my post with such an irrelevancy. Talk about fixation and obsession! We are dealing here with music and the Grammys.  We are not in the Politics forum.

I'm no Bieber fan, I don't know if I have ever heard one of his songs.

The news was pretty big on him drag racing a Lambourgini (have no idea about the spelling) at speeds up to twice the speed limit.  This means he was driving a sports car at 60 mph.  Good grief.  He was using drugs and alcohol, this didn't get as  much air time as the speed.  What's wrong with the reporting?

What's wrong about the whole business is the disordered value system that has enabled such a pipsqueak spoiled brat jerk as Bieber with no exceptional talent to rise to the place of prominence and popularity that he enjoys.

====================

Paul Walker was killed in a car going over 100 mph. Now true, I haven't really followed the story, but I haven't seen a lot, well anything really, addressing the speed they were going, other than it being the cause of the accident that is. It's all about how tragic it is to lose such a popular star/good guy. i wonder how many times he was on the streets speeding. I wonder how many young men that go to his "fast and furious" movies are out on the streets emulating him.
