The wife and I were on a mission to discover the source of a rumor that we had overheard, while eating one evening, at a local restaurant.  At the next table there was a gentleman who knew the party that was dining at that table and was sharing with them about a new "great" Cajun restaurant that he either had a part in or knew that was going to open.  Since then the wife and I had been trying to locate just where this new restaurant would be located and if it was here local to the Shoals area.

The good news is that soon (according to one of the owners/chefs) "PoBoy's Cajun Grill" will be open and serving FRESH Cajun food.   The location of this new Cajun restaurant is in the Petersville/Cloverdale/Chisholm Road area and will be on Church Road just between Chisholm Road and the Railroad Tracks.

Here is the Facebook page for the new restaurant:

https://www.facebook.com/PoBoysCajun

and here is a link to the menu pages:   https://www.facebook.com/PoBoysCajun/photos_stream

I spoke with the chef who up until recently actually was head chef at Sweet Magnolias and had spent time and in development of his career and talents being and assistant chef at the New Orleans Commanders Palace.  I think it's exciting to that we have yet another Cajun selection coming to the area and from a short discussion with the Chef they have great plans for the building once they get open and on their feet.  Plans such as the construction of a deck, potentially live bands and entertainment and eventually potentially another 4000 sq feet of expansion.  They already have spent a lot of time and effort on getting the building in shape and ready to accept diners.  The actual location of the restaurant is 115 CR 30, Florence, AL and is North on Chisolm past the Mapco station and turn right on CR 30 (Church Road) which leads to St. Florian.  The restaurant is on the left with lots of parking and before you reach the Railroad Crossing.

Last for those that like fresh seafood the chef plans on bringing in fresh Alligator and Crawfish from Breauxbridge LA each week.

Actually, Semi, the place was a restaurant before as two other people tried their luck there but neither of them were Restaurant people and knew what to expect.  Actually there are quite a few folks that patronize the area, some from Tennessee, Zip City,  Then you also have folks from the Industrial park that are always looking for place to eat.  Granted it's out of the way but I have a feeling that IF, (I know BIG WORD), IF they produce a great product then folks will come and find them out.  They are also planning on entertainment on down the line so I hope they do very well there and I have a feeling they will do far better than the others who occupied the place before.

Oh...Yeah!

I agree...

Why would anyone want to cater to those backwards azzed ,subHuman zero's in that area?

Guess they should have opened one in YOUR exclusive back yard? Huh?

Racist? Much?

Hey, we've already got 3 places to eat in little, ole St. Florian.  And they all make a mean burger.

It's just a 5 minute drive over to Cajun's for many.  I just hope they advertise enough to make people remember they're open and doing business.

But I don't think the turtle and rabbit's worth having on the menu.

Agreed. The location is just a very few minutes north of Cox Creek Parkway.  From the intersection of the parkway and Chisholm Road  to the County Road 30 location of the restaurant is only a half mile or so farther than from that same intersection to the Regency Mall area and with far fewer stoplights.  It is a breeze getting there.  If the food and service are  good,  they WILL do business. The location will not be an impediment. The prior occupants of that location had food that was simply mundane.

I still wish someone would put a restaurant on the water on the Lauderdale side of Wilson Lake.  A seafood or cajun restaurant would be preferred.  Next to Happy Hollow Bridge on stilts with a big porch around the building would work.

And I still miss Marina Mar's dairy dip and their milkshakes in a boat ride.

Heck, I'd just like to have more than one place to put gas in my boat, too.

Why do you want to be so mean? Just because I ask why anyone would want to open a restaurant in that area makes me racist, & implies the people there is backwards?? It's a small town, kinda out of the way, & didn't seem like a logical place for a restaurant. Anyone that see's racism in my question would be the racist.

Just in case you don't know what the word means............
racism: The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

______

I thought the Petersville/Cloverdale area was down Cox Creek Pkwy. (going from the mall) to the right behind what is or used to be Winn Dixie? I've only been there a couple of times but seems I remember the street to Christ Chapel being on the left after you turn at that grocery store.

The location can be a good choice considering the industrial park close by. Also since the opening  of the new bridge crossing the river it is not far at all from Colbert county. Since it is going to be ran by a real chef I assume that business will grow and the place will be a sure destination. Every time I have been to Tim's Cajun kitchen in Huntsville it was packed. We can assume this place will develop into the same situation if it is run correctly.

I never went to the last establishment that was there, but the first one was nothing more than a joke, especially if you wanted something besides a sandwich and fries!

Semi, you should know by now that Roland only posts on here to incite anger, but your question as to why anyone would want to open a place in that area is a little on the side of bigotry.

______

What is this, did someone decide that today is to be the "let's show chick how much we dislike her day"? Racism & now Bigotry????

unclegus, I'm shocked at your response. I've been to Petersville/Cloverdale area maybe twice in the last 25 years. I thought it was a very small area with a dollar store & a place to get gas. Apparently, I was wrong, & if I offended anyone, it wasn't my intention. I don't see anything about my question that would invoke such criticism.  Sheeish!!!

What's wrong with wondering why a restaurant would open in a small town as opposed to a large town? Does my question fall under some kind of "do not say" law? Maybe I should go crawl under a rock & stay there for a few days. Maybe some of you can hope there will be a poisonous snake under said rock.

unclegus, I'm giving you the definition of bigotry. Please show me how my comment would fall into that area.

Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot: someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats other people with hatred, contempt, or intolerance on the basis of a person's ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or other

characteristics.

If I'm a bigot toward anyone/anything, it would be Bill Gray because of his contempt & intolerance toward anyone that is not a Christian & those Christians that doesn't believe the way he does.

No offense meant! No offense taken!

Maybe you should read my former post? Sorry you get so offended if anyone questions your post. But, now that you have stated you have only been to the Petersville area  2 times in the past twenty years, then maybe it is you who is behind the times? Petersville has been growing by leaps and bounds for at least 30 years. it is the gateway for two counties in Tennessee as well as the many new subdivisions being built in the area. It is one direction for Florence to expand...and is!

Hey, did you hear they are getting a Wal Mart?

_____

So are you serious with your question or just being a smart azz? I don't get offended because someone questions my post, never have. I was offended because my honest question got me accused of being a bigot. All because I questioned a restaurant going to a small town opposed to a large town.

Maybe I'M behind the times?? Where did I accuse someone of being behind the times?

I would still like to know how my comment fell into the bigot area.

uclegus, I've always liked you & enjoyed reading your post. But if my "bigotry" offends you, maybe you should block me from this point on.

And you have the nerve to say Rolands post incites anger?

Y'all get off Semi's case !

First of all Semi, you will find life a lot more pleasant with Roland  Pfalz on ignore. Llike Jobe, he has never made a positive statement, and just cuts down people and situations. Nothing worthwhile to be gained by reading either's post.

Next, I'm not sure, but I believe like me, Semi lives on the South side of the Tennessee Ocean, and like me we wish there were a better selection of places here to eat. The Garden Gate is great, and we eat there about once or twice a week; Ruby Tuesday's is also very good, as is Outback , but both of them are basically steak, potato, and salad places (and I do love a good steak on occasion). Only other pretty good place is the Chinese across from the mall and it is good, but we only get a cravin' for Chinese every couple or 3 weeks.

I admit there are a bunch of fast food places, but the last fast food place I went into was a Burger King in Key Largo in 2008  because I had driven all day and was starving by the time I got there, and was not very familiar at the time with what was available there. THATS what I think about fast food places.

Contenda, You gotta realize that for us on the South side, crossing the Tn Ocean on Stoplight bridge to go over to Stoplight City to eat , is a 20+ mile round trip at best, and maybe once in a while something to do , but  we just prefer to stay over on our little side of the ocean.

BTW, I don't see how semi's remark could have been racist. It did remind me of the restaurant, Greek I think, that opened in Ford City. Didn't it decide to move to Florence? Maybe this one will move if they're a huge success.

==========

Alligator is a white, very firm (chewey) , mild meat., I have only tried it fried, but it was delicious.

Great for an appetizer, don't know how I'd like it as a main course tho.

The white meat part of the gator is from the tail and most people consider it to be the best part.  Leg meat is sometimes served.   It is darker and not quite as mild, but I like it too.  I also prefer dark meat from chicken, so I guess that translates to gator as well. The tail meat sometimes is referred to as alligator tenderloin.

The leg meat is not as dark and gamy as armadillo or beaver.  It is not as good as frog legs, though, which trump all gator meat IMHO, provided they are fresh and have never been frozen.

WOW! That was a bunch of postings to get to the end.

I went by Cajun's tonight, and they're still working on the inside of the place.  The outside remains generic white concrete block with a dark, gravel lot.

I'm hopeful that the food will be exceptional, as the location and facility is just not very good.  But some great chefs have to start somewhere, and money doesn't grow on trees in this ultra competitive business.  Let's support these guys when they open.

I can taste that cajun hossenfeffer already.

________

Be careful what you say about location, or you'll be accused of being a racist and/or bigot. Or maybe it's just me they don't like for some reason?

I'll definitely support it if the food is good (love Cajun food) but I'll pass on the hossenfeffer.

No desire to keep it going, just don't understand what I said that, in your eyes, warranted my being  a bigot.

There's a member on this forum that has referred to that area as being full of toothless, stupid rednecks, ignorant drivers & dumb kids. He mentioned the people that went to one restaurant in Petersville as being dirty, fat rednecks. But I'm the bigot because I questioned a small town over a large town. Yep, I'm a racist & bigot alright.

I didn't see anything in your original post that would qualify as a racist or bigotry statement. I took it to mean "hey that's a little off the beaten path for a restaurant isn't it?".   I thought the same thing.  Has nothing to do with the people in the neighborhoods out there.

I'll have you know I do go to the dentist, and I still have all my teeth.  While I may be a little redneck, I do drive a Lexus and a Jaguar.  I also graduated from college--in only 4 years--and without any student loans.  And I may be one of the few drivers in town that doesn't slow to 5 mph before turning off a 4 lane highway.  And my son is very intelligent.

Wait a minute!! You need to re-read what I posted. It wasn't me that said those things. What I said was "There's a member on this forum" that said those things. IT WAS NOT ME!

I don't care how many cars you drive, or how long you were in college. I don't judge people by those things or if they have any teeth. I look at how a person treats others. I could do some bragging of my own but I choose not to. It's just not me.

Never mind.  I'm signing out of this one, as the talk is just going in circles.

I don't live far from Cajuns, and I'll certainly be glad to give them my business.  I'm tired of all the noise at Logans and Texas Roadhouse, and Sam's Sports Bar's service is still being shaken out.  Applebee's has a sub par operation here, and Ruby Tuesday's trying to find themselves.  We'll see how Longhorn stacks up, especially with Dales/Sperry's upcoming restaurant opening.

And as always, the restaurant business is tough to be successful in.  That is, unless you're really good at what you do.  What I'd really like is a really exceptional barbeque restaurant with some ambiance--like Rendezvous in Memphis.

The new marina that is being constructed on the opposite side of Shoals Creek Bridge is going to have a Restaurant and short term rental units as well as a marina store in a new building/addition if the Times Daily can be believed for there was an article in the last week or so about the Construction and inside boat storage building going on right now.  The Restaurant, store and rental units are to come next.
