Juan Williams was fired by National Public Radio for admitting that he is scared to fly with Muslims. As if he's the only one.

Juan Williams is an independent intellectual. Apparently, NPR is not willing to let a person call them like he sees them.

This is to the shame of NPR, and a word to your congressperson about this disgraceful turn of events is not out of line. Why are we funding NPR anyway? If this is the fascist regime they want to manage there, I say it's time to cut them loose to the mercies of their subscribers.

NPR might have been trying to rid itself of an open minded liberal who doesn't always mindlessly repeat the mantra of the left. Or then again, NPR might just hate uppity black folk.

quote:
The National Association of Black Journalists has reacted to the firing of Greg Peppers, one of two black men in National Public Radio’s newsroom management, with a strongly worded letter questioning the network’s commitment to diversity.

“Who are the managers of color at NPR?” NABJ President Kathy Times and Vice President/Broadcast Bob Butler asked NPR’s president, Vivian Schiller.

“What is NPR doing to recruit and groom African Americans for positions in management? Of the 68 members on your corporate team and behind-the-scenes staff, only eight are people of color:

* “4 African Americans,

* “2 Hispanic Americans,

* “1 Iranian American

* “1 American from South Asia.

“That translates to about 12 percent. Your organization benefits from listener support, corporate donations and tax dollars from the Corporation of Public Broadcasting and should reflect the diversity of the community you serve. The minority population of the United States is approximately 32 percent.”

Peppers, a 22-year NPR veteran who supervised NPR’s newscast unit, was fired on Oct. 16 and escorted out of its Washington headquarters.

I thought Juan Williams did work for Fox News. He is all over the YOU TUBE videos I see of yelling and screaming on Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly (That is the only time I am subjected to propoganda and then in very small doses) Oh well he can interview Michael Steele and REALLY raise the perception of blacks in the teathuglican party!!!!!!!!!

Go Juan and Fox.

Juan was the only Negro journalist NPR had so you can be certain Jesse and Al will be all over this racial injustice like white on rice. That "ditsy" female who is the NPR president may get sued for Breach of Contract, libel and slander, as she stated in Atlanta that Juan was mentally ubstable and needed a psychiatrist. Even if you are not a fan of Juan Williams, you should realize the depth of hurt he is feeling right now...you can see it in his eyes. I hope this sparks enough outrage that they have to shut NPR down or. better yet fire that idiot and give her job to Juan. Where is the NAACP, C O R E, Civil Rights branch of the Justice Dept., Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton...where is the outrage??
Since Soros is paying off all those groups, don't expect to hear a peep out of them.

NPR was going downhill before this, now they are dirt.

Soros also wants Mara Liason fired because she also guest on Fox. Any other network ever bring journalists on from competing networks? Ever?
Fox has many different views while the other networks have only the liberal left. And then they wonder why their ratings are in the toilet?

Soon, Fox will be the only station that has any journalists.
Just a reminder: it's a bad idea to ever start a sentence with, "I'm not a bigot, but...," particularly if you're on national tv. The next thing you say is pretty much guaranteed to offend someone.

Juan's argument that someone wearing traditional Muslim garb and thus identifying himself as Muslim is somehow identifying himself as a potential terrorist is just stupid and irrational. Besides the fact that anyone who's ever tried to bring down a plane (9/11 highjackers, shoe and underwear bombers) has been wearing street clothes to blend in, he's apparently holding all of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims responsible for the actions of a tiny minority of Muslim terrorists, which is pretty much the working definition of bigotry.

Also, can we stop quoting al-Qaeda and other terrorists when they say that we're at war with Islam? That's their crazy idea, not ours, and certainly not the idea of most of the world's Muslims. Don't use the terrorists' conceit of a civilizational war between the West and Islam to justify bigotry against all Muslims.

That said, I'm not a big fan of journalists getting fired just for saying one offensive thing (I can think of at least three other examples from this year alone), so I don't think NPR should have let him go. Maybe they were just looking for an excuse, since he seems to be spending a lot more of his time on Fox recently.
What NPR just did was stick their hand up and asked to be investigated. Why does a network, who is funded by government funds, act in this manner? My guess is after November 2, a investigation of the leagl issues concerning the governmnet funding of liberal mouthpiece, which is what NPR has become, will commence.
I hope they manage to take every one of their "news" (and I say that toungue in cheek) programs off of the air. Hopefully, if it is allowed to continue to exist, it will only be a format for music and entertainment, which is what it should be doing now.

But please consider, NPR is so much MORE than their news broadcasts. Where else are you going to get such a great mix of classical and jazz music? Where else are you going to get NO COMMERCIALS?

102.7
no classical, but a great blend of jazzy bluesy kinda stuff, and so far no commercials.

no opinion on the acctual topic, tho - never heard of this guy until this story broke, and don't listen to NPR...
acctually.. make that have never listened to NPR, nor do i intend to. i use the radio for what marconi* and god intended.

rock n roll.

*marconi and/or the other guy who's said to have invented the radio at roughly the same time. i know marconi's name. i dunno the other guy's name. don't much care.
Only 2% of NPR's budget comes from "government" funding. I doubt if that 2% will make a difference as far as news programming goes. Our LOCAL NPR stations however, DO use much more than that 2%. It would be a shame to see them suffer - THEY are the ones who provide us with the great music and local programming, and THEY could hardly be called "liberal".

And I must say that if "bias" is the problem, then Fox news should be either shut down, or should have a disclaimer befor each so-called news show stating that they have an ultra-conservative agenda that colors everything they say.
Ha, every news station other than Fox would have to have a disclaimer that says: We only post the liberal point of view. All others will be fired.

I listen to AOL radio through the computer. 100's of stations and you can pick even themes, such as one hit wonders, anime, all Korn, all rock, oldies, etc...
they have had problems in the past.

NPR suffered an almost fatal setback in 1983 when efforts to expand services created a deficit of nearly US$7 million. After a Congressional investigation and the resignation of NPR's president, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting agreed to lend the network money in order to stave off bankruptcy.[8] In exchange, NPR agreed to a new arrangement whereby the annual CPB stipend that it had previously received directly would be divided among local stations instead; in turn, those stations would support NPR productions on a subscription basis. NPR also agreed to turn its satellite service into a cooperative venture (the Public Radio Satellite System), making it possible for non-NPR shows to get national distribution. It took NPR approximately three years to pay off the debt.[9]

On December 10, 2008, NPR announced that it would reduce its workforce by 7% and cancel the news programs Day to Day and News & Notes.[10] The organization indicated this was in response to a rapid drop in corporate underwriting in the wake of the economic crisis of 2008.[10]

The only thing stupid and irrational is your complete misrepresentation of his statement.

He did NOT say that they were identifying themselves as a potential terrorist, simply that he has a personal reaction of uneasiness in response to the sight of a Muslim on a plane.

Is that ideal? No.

Is it honesty? Yes.

He WENT ON to state that we can't let these VERY REAL personal anxieties allow us to treat all Muslims as complicit and discriminate against them.

SOMEHOW, people chop that part of his remarks out of their recriminations.

People like yourself, it seems.
Critics of the firing pointed out that, later in the same discussion on the "O'Reilly" show, Williams had challenged the host's claim that -- quote -- "the Muslims attacked us on 9/11."

JUAN WILLIAMS: ... that there are good Muslims. I think that's a point, you know? You know, we don't want, in America, people to have their rights violated, to be attacked on the street because they hear rhetoric from Bill O'Reilly, and they act crazy.

Strom Thurmond I thought you died anyways welcome back Mr. T.

Ever hear of the Negro College Fund??? You know, "A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste".

Then there's the NAACP (CP=Colored People), so Colored People is okay...NOT racist.

Negro is a reference to a race of people who share physical characteristics and traits including dark or "black" skin, thus BLACK is acceptable, not racist. I have not been around as long as Strom Thurmond but I have been here long enough to know that African American is a waste of one word, either African or American. If you are a citizen of this nation, you are American. If you are African you are not a citizen of this country. If you are trying to convey you are black I can probably get that from a visual or just say you are a Negro, Colored Person.

That's right, Negro is the name of a race. Black is slang for that race.

Colored people, and people of color, are the same.
Nice guy Juan, too bad you didn't bother to tell his story. A true Patriot.

JAMAL BAADANI

Jamal Baadani felt he had an obligation to give back to his community, and shortly after the horrific days of September 11th, 2001, he founded the Association of Patriotic Arab Americans in Military to create a voice for the Arab and Muslim American Communities in response to backlash and discrimination.

Jamal quickly understood that the backlash and discrimination faced by the Arab and Muslim American Communities after 9/11 was mostly due to a lack of understanding by their fellow Americans. Using the U.S. Military uniform as the bridge to understanding coupled with his will to educate his fellow Americans about the Patriotism of Arab and Muslim Americans, Jamal’s vision of bringing them closer together would be through his continued persistence to make America a better place for all Americans.

Sharing in the same conviction of “Duty and Patriotism” hundreds of Arab American service-members, to include General John Abizaid, joined APAAM to share in Jamal’s vision of making America a better place for all Americans.

The United States Marine Corps requested his leadership to develop the Middle East Cultural Outreach Program (MECOP). Joining Marine Corps Recruiting Command in 2006, Jamal was instrumental in developing a national level program that would engage with the Arab and Muslim American Communities located throughout the United States. Jamal was instrumental in building the structure and foundation of the program to strategically manage the recruitment and retention, and develop the way-ahead for 12 major U.S. markets.
