It did not take long for the predictions made on this site years ago to come to fruition. Despite the fact that the Keller BOD turned down $60+ million USD to join forces with the local ECM hospital years ago to form one large new hospital, they have spent millions in a wasted effort to prevent the local community from having a new hospital, and now they plan to sign a 40 year agreement with HH which is supposed to be "good" for the area. The only thing missing from this scenario is Baghdad Bob standing up on the podium telling us how much this will benefit the community. The arrangement is supposed to be similar to what is currently underway in the Decatur system where HH assumed control of Parkway and Decatur General, and then funneled most of the patient services to HH. Decatur Hospital then lost about half of their bed (116 if I remember correctly), and with no plans to update the building, these will likely be gone for good.  The same thing will happen here. HH's only desire is to syphon services from this area and to prevent this area from having a new state of the art hospital.  With the recent annoucement by the bond holders in regards to HKH's debt it was obvious something like this would have to happen.

The people of Colbert county should hold the BoD and the commissioners accountable.  The hospital could have been sold 4 years ago with a $30M profit that would have gone a long way toward helping the community and funding the retirement plans of the employees there, but instead millions have been wasted, and now they sign a 40 year agreement which will eventually seal the fate of the organization.

Something ain't right there.

Hillary in 2016?  Why not?  We've already had one "girly man" serving in office for the past 7 years, we might as well give her chance as well!

The untold story here is that the hospital (HKH) was essentially sold to HH, without  undergoing a public bid process such as would be required by a publically held entity. HKH and the BoD also basically stuck it to the people of Colbert county by allowing this to take place, since the profit from the sale, if there was any (there would have been in the previous offer - about $30M), would have been returned to the county and used to fund retirement for the employees who have retirement plans in the system.  Instead, they legally "rented" the hospital to HH who will then manage it, continue to meddle in the affairs of the Shoals, and continue to prevent the building of the new hospital.  There is only one more hurdle for the new project to clear, and historically there isn othing to prevent its eventual development, but the fact remains that this project has been set back years and the community will continue to suffer because of it.  yet, HKH and its asminstrator claims to be doing "what is best for the Shoals"....haha....gimme a break. They are doing what is best for HH, all the while supping at the trough for retirment benefits, while pateints and health care workers have to seek care elsewhere.  There should be an investigation into th whole deal and have the dirty laudry aired for everyone to see.

The BoD at HKH think that they will somehow maintain some control over their destiny.  They are petty bureaucrats who are more worried about their own position in the sandbox than the good of the community.  The funneling of patients to Huntsville has already been going on.  It is only a matter of time until anything other than essential services are offered at HKH.

I kinda welcome the delay in building the new hospital.  It will give Colbert County plenty of time to realize what they have done to themselves and the area.

Obamer voters...no doubt.

Does HH take "Gimme Mine" insurance?

...........meanwhile, back on subject; ECM has good heart science and application but otherwise the place is nasty due to the ineptness of the new owners. The staff deserve better. Hopefully the hospital will someday be run by doctors. HH is a great hospital and will be a welcome partner with HK. Eventually HH will force the new owners of ECM to allow doctors to practice medicine again. I see the HH&HK as a good thing.

I'm thinking local doctors could use the situation to their advantage and to the patients advantage by banding together and lobby to practice on both sides of the river in both hospitals.

T how would that work out?

QD, if you check the stats, taken by national panels, ECM has much lower instances of staff and other nasties than HH. Of course, in order to check these stats, one must first be able to read arabic numerals.

Now, if all you care about is a Chik-fil-A on the campus, then HH wins hands down.

I've already told my wife that if I ever have a need to be lifted to an emergency room via helicopter, tell'em to head north.  I'd be glad to spend 5 minutes longer to get to Vanderbilt Hospital over Huntsville.

We've already begun to use Tennessee healthcare providers on highly specialized medical treatments.  My wife and daughter do go to one Huntsville doctor group, however they're not using Huntsville Hospital for procedures.

After all the shenanigans at Helen Keller, we want nothing to do with them or their Big Daddy, Huntsville Hospital.
