Just goes to show, it’s all about the money. Most churches don’t have the balls to do what this one did. Most just talk behind your back.

“A 92-year-old woman is no longer allowed to worship at the church where she was a member for more than 50 years because she was not tithing”.

Sounds to me like the Pastor wasn't and isn't doing his job!  She's been sick and out yet no visits from the Pastor?  What about when the people in the congregation are in financial hardships should not the Church, the Pastor, be there to help them out?  Just because it's a Church doesn't mean God's Spirit blesses it or empowers the ministry.  Just because he's a pastor doesn't mean that God works though him or even has His hand upon his ministry.

Sadly though this is not the only Church that is cited for such egregious actions which, in my opinion, ruin their witness and ministry and outreach.  There have been allegations, at least that I've heard about but don't know about personally, that some (possibly one) Churches in our area ask members to fill out financial information about what they make or their household income.  I suppose for the purpose to determine what tithe they should contribute.   IF this is true then it's not a church I consider to be acting Biblical or in the Will of God.

In the Old testament and days of Israel the tithe was more a tax than anything else and was usually/actually more than 10%.  When Israel would go on conquest and prevailed in battle then a 10th of the very best of the spoils would go to the Lord and be considered an offering for God's leadership and protection in battle.  Many Churches today have corrupted the tithe making it an obligation and burden upon people rather than a way people can choose to Worship God.

Churches may say well the Church has to be supported so as to continue yet to me that's a lack of faith.  If a Church is in God's Will and doing what they should be then God will provide and lead people to give what is needed.  Far too many Churches today pay pastors exorbitant salaries that themselves tax the Churches budgets.   They look for pastors that meet an ever narrowing list of criteria and requirements.  The Pastor has to have a degree, has to have a Doctorate, has to have graduated from this seminary or have written so many books.  Churches are nothing but people, imperfect, sinful, people and thus each Church's own congregation is just as responsible for making sure that their chosen Church complies with God's directions as given in Scripture and there is nowhere I know of that justifies what this Church in Georgia did.
