lawmakers are also considering denying financing for 700 miles of fencing along the border with Mexico

This article is sickening to read. It shows that law makers will do what ever they think it will take to get a vote.

Miamizsun, That is what I had in mind about a wall instead a fence, that would be patroled, and I'm not talking about a guardhouse every 10 miles where the border patrol could pass time watching T.V. I mean patroled with our miltary on foot, guarding and watching ever inch. Yes, I know the illegals would still find a way in and the drug smugglers also. But this would make them have to try very hard. As it is now all one has to do is walk across a mostly unguarded desert and wham they are here.
I honestly have the solution...
A 50 foot wide thick growth of Cholla Cactus.self maintainig ,green, cheap, fit for the enviornment.you cant drive thru it,walk thru it
grows up to 10 feet high.....just monitor the few bulldozer or herbicde points..but this stuff is hardy it will regrow quickly......
it isnt perfect but it is a 80 percent solution...Of course if we actually went after the corporations who knowngly hire illegals..i.e. cut the head off the snake....we'd be more effective..but wait that will damage the bottom line , stock prices, and product picing thereby contributing to inflation and further exacerbating our trade deficit...OK bienvidos a nuestro pias

Nahhhh, too cheap, and our gov't only wants the HIGHEST priced things they can get..

All kidding aside, I think this might just be an answer in some of the least populated place... gotta be a HUGE line though...

Good thinking... Wink
Fences do no good without gaurds, as long as Prince George and the Republicans are in office, they will continue to talk about this issue out of both sides of their mouths. No, what should be done is FINE the companies who employ illegals with STIFF penalties. If their aren't jobs waiting for the illegals, they won't come. But as long as the Bushies and friends are in power, big business will thrive off the work of the illegals and we the taxpayers will pay the bills.
Oh, just one more thing, I happened to catch a repeat of Anderson Cooper's piece on CNN about the TUNNELS that are built all along the Arizona/Mexico border. These things were like New York City Subways complete with steps and railings and not a gaurd in site! I still stand by my assessment that the only way to stop the flow of illegals is cut off the prize they are coming for, paychecks and social entitlements. Until this happens (and it won't as long as the Republicans and Big Business control the issue) there is no way to stop the flow.

I think "lying under oath" Clinton knew Tyson of Tysons chicken as his LARGEST campaign donor.Tyson employs more illegals than about anyone....Clinton knew , also had Bin Laden 911 is his fault...Iraq is his fault ...Bush is a great man in a difficult time
How can you fight a "War on Terror" after having been attacked on your home soil and not secure your borders? How can you let illegal immigrants into your country UNCHECKED for DISEASE?

You can do it if you don't care about anything but your own finacial AZZ!
Bush and Clinton should have been IMPEACHED!
We need real leadership! Not Osama Hussien Barak or Hillary Clinton!
Bill Clinton did have a trail for impeachments for stains on a blue dress by the rabid republicans. George Bush stole the presidency, sold the country to big oil, let Bin Laden slide and sent the US into a war under false pretenses and the idiots in America reelected him! He should have been impeached and made to go to Mexico and dig ditches, or come to the Shoals and work for minimum wage for the Anderson Brothers! THE DOG BARKS
Maddog, these people here are born, and raised Republican, and you could run Satan himself I do believe for President, and these people in the Shoals would VOTE Republican anyway.
Go to Indiana for example, and see how horrible their roads, and infrasture there are. They are always the first to show "RED" as a Republican State in any ELECTION, and you'll see what Republican leadership has done for that area. NOTHING!! Look where all the job's are going OUT OF THE COUNTRY but still they will vote Republican, so yea go ahead people VOTE REPUBLICAN, and get sold out by those that promise a better future YEA RIGHT!! a better future for them.

Planting all that cactus that bgreider was talking about would work on tunnels if it was planted thick enough and the tunnel was filled... this is a great idea, wonder why the government hasn't thought of that...no one would even attempt to try to cross this sort of 'border'.

YYYYAAAAYYYY maddog!!!! That was one of the best replies I have seen on here yet.

On a good note though, I saw on the news last night (without going through all the details) that the House was going to file Impeachment ASAP... *sigh*... maybe things will turn around for the best if that happens!!!!

How naive. Do you really think OUR government is going to let the people mount a 1700's style revolt? The revolutionaries would be rooted out and destroyed. Those days are far away anyway. To get enough support to sustain it, the government would have to start really hitting people where it hurts, the wallets and stomachs of Americans.

Geeezzzeee... and just WHEN is the Gov't gonna hit us where it hurts? Wallets? They are there!!! Stomachs... There too!!! It has already started for MOST people, guess you are one with a silver spoon?
Fabian Martinez is pretty certain his life could play out in a rap song. The 19-year-old, in fact, has likened his own life to lyrics he's heard in some of his favorite rap music.

Our government had rather spend money and resources on this possible rapping illegal alien
than to defend the good of the country. The liberal media loves playing the violin when it comes to illegal aliens. I for one don't like my tax dollars going toward this type of care if in fact they are illegal.

He was a Teacher BEFORE he was the Principal. My son had his classes. He was a very nice man, and I had absolutely no problems at all with him, that is why we were so shocked... but that goes to show you, I guess everyone has their desperate moments, ya think?

I really feel sorry for his family, his daughter and my daughter were friends, and my daughter was so sad when this all blew up.
YBFAM...I didn't get that from this article. I think it was meant to inspire, not create sympathy for illegals. According to the article, all of this young man's history is in the States. The boy can't move, should be dead & yet he is making a difference with his art and writing. The message of the article is to not give up on yourself just because life deals you a crappy hand. When you think you have troubles, look around...there's always someone dealing with bigger troubles than your's and coming out on top.
Everyone with the name Martinez is not here illegally. My fear is that because many people are sick of the illegal alien problem & rightfully so, they see every person of hispanic descent as an illegal. I hope our government understands that the longer they delay dealing with the problem, the more the animosity for hispanics will grow. People that are here legally are getting to pay for what others (illegals) have done and are doing.

I think one of the basic fears going on right now, is shared fake ID Cards/Drivers License, as shown on TV. One hundred people named John Doe Gomez can use the same card, and who is to know? Who is going to police the illegal activity AFTER the illegals come into the country??

That is hard on every law enforcement agency Nationwide.
That's true, KS. I can't decide about the amnesty thing. Granting someone amnesty for breaking the law is totally illogical. On the other hand, finding every last one of them is an impossible task. Either way, until they man the borders & prosecute every employer of illegals, nothing will work. There's a long road ahead with this issue.

It's time to get madder than hell. We need to man the borders we san't wait on they. We need to support the minute men all we can! Mad

WE need to stay on our elected officals AZZEZ about this.

Yep, the liberal Times Daily knows exactly how to play on unknowing peoples soft side. We can't afford to save the world, no matter how sad it is.

If you are in the middle of the ocean with one life raft and it will only hold 5 people but 20 need saving what do you do?
Migrants took their chances

The aftermath of the meatpacking plant raids is a tiresomely familiar song and dance. This time protesters complain the government is using accusations of identity theft as an excuse to round up undocumented workers.

But no excuse is needed. "Undocumented workers" — more properly called "illegal aliens," especially since they typically have abundant documents (albeit fraudulent) — are criminals two times over. First, it's illegal to cross our borders without inspection (see Title 8, Section 1325a of the U.S. Code). Then it's also illegal to take a job using fake documents (Title 18, Section 1546).

In choosing to violate U.S. laws, the affected families took their chances. They've no call now to protest the consequences. Our sympathies are better directed to the American families whose lives were devastated 20 years ago when, to drastically cut costs, the meatpackers fired these families' wage-earners and began mainlining illegal labor.

Okay, so do that. What does that have to do with pouncing on anyone that has a last name that sounds like they maybe, might be, could be, a chance that they are, odds are, "somebody said" it's possible...that they are an illegal? How exactly does that help the situation? I can tell you the answer to that...it doesn't.

Yes, get loud & demand that people come here legally or not at all. BUT, if you come across as hating all Hispanics, regardless if they are here legally or not, you will immediately lose your audience. I'm assuming your intention is to get our government to listen and take action. They will not listen to you or associate themselves with you if they hear the ring of racism anywhere in your delivery. You can toss this advice, no problem, but I feel it's important to stay on target, the target being only those breaking the law, not all Hispanics.
