Joy, I don't want to be one either, but neither do I want to be someone who will sit silently by and "just put up with" the kinds of behavior in the church that my father would not put up with...he showed his contempt for such things, not by giving up on church and railing about how hypocritical everyone was, but by voting with his feet and moving his family to a church across town where he felt that God truly did "run things" and not the men in the leadership positions. In fact, my parents still attend that same church Daddy moved us to now almost 30 years ago. Just because you point out someone else's sin doesn't make you a Pharisee, in fact, the Bible itself admonishes us to do just that but in a loving manner, in private at first, but in public later if the person will not turn from their sinful ways and repent.

I think you are taking the word just a little to literal. The leadership of a church is not your boss. They don't tell you what to do. They are there as "CALLED" by God, ministers of the gospel, and leaders of the church, not bosses or CEO's.

Sorry, I know just what I say.I take the Bible as the inspired word of God,and do not read and discard something that seems 'outdated' just because times have changed.
We have surely changed, but God is the same today, yesterday and tommorrow.
Maybe that's why we are taught to search the scriptures daily,to see if what we are being taught is true.
That allows for one to read, study, talk to the Lord on their own level. One does not need a PHD from a "preacher college" to be an equal in the sight of God. I believe the Lord looks at our heart and not our smarts.
SGinSC...I'm sure your dad did what he felt led by God to do. There are certainly times when, just like Jesus told his disciples, you have to shake the dust off your feet and move on.

There are also times when you have to stay and take the steps outlined in the Bible and I am not talking about pastors. I mean each and every member of the church has been given Biblical direction on how to handle situations where a brother or sister's behavior is hurting you and/or the church. If we do not do this, I believe we have failed God and the Church.

Regarding pointing out another's sin, I think it depends on when and where and why. I am not singling you out at all...I see so much finger pointing on the forums from Christians and non-Christians alike, as if we alone are without fault. Who of us does not struggle with pride and control or authority issues? You don't have to be a Christian to see the absurdity of holding someone else to a standard that we ourselves cannot meet.

My weaknesses may not include trying to run the church but they are still a daily struggle. Sin is sin. Turn it around...how would I feel if that brother or sister with the control issues decided to judge me on the basis of where I fail daily? That would be pretty painful. Yes, we need to hold one another accountable (in a LOVING manner), but we also need to see each other through God's eyes. JMHO

Anyhoo, it's just one of those things I see on here & it bothers me. Since it is probably not going to change, I guess I'll just have to get over it...haha.

And to that, I say amen. But we all have to respect our leaders within the church. God placed them in the leadership position. And as long as they lead according to scripture, then we need to respect that leadership. You hit the nail on the head when you said "...search the scriptures daily to see if what we are being taught is true.". I could not agree with you more and I believe that is what our pastors want us to do. That is how we can also hold them accountable. Iron sharpens iron.
