Why did the TimesDaily not report that the pay increase for Colbert County employees voted by the County Commissioners Gardiner, Burleson, Keeton and Creekmore, ALSO included a raise in their own salary?
Commissioner Jimmar voted himself out of the increase in pay by voting against it .... Hooray for Mr.Jimmar for sticking to his principals.

Shame on Creekmore, Gardiner, Burleson and Keeton for padding their pockets with our tax dollars by stating that the general fund is in good shape. A very lame excuse to give themselves a pay raise since the economy is not looking good and our seniors "fixed income" is being eaten up with utility, medicine, grocery, gas and other high increases -- as well as our property taxes and sales taxes.
You men are an embarrassment to those who put you in office with the promise that you'd make a difference. Well, you certainly have - but in a far worse than expected action. You could still opt out of the increase if you are sincere in helping our county.
You can't afford to build a new jail facility but you give yourselves a pay raise?
Not one of you men actually need that money as much as the majority of those you represent.
If the county is in such good shape financially, then drop the ad valorem tax rate from the recent hikes.

ROTATE THE CROPS...Vote them all out. Start fresh.
From what I understand, they met their budget and had some funds available so they gave the county workers a raise as well as themselves. While I don't like the fact that they gave themselves a raise, I agree that the county workers deserved it since they were under budget. I would be more upset if they were over budget and voted for a raise. At least they are being fiscally responsible.

I thought about sending them a bill for cleaning up the road and power right of way on the road bordering my home. They thought it was a joke when I asked for help. Please note the times they will do any clean up work. Once again; VOTE THE BASTA**S OUT-NOW! Taking up space they are.

response: The reason the budget came "under" is due to delaying some important projects at just the right time of the fiscal year. This is a well-known tactic among city and county managers who can make their chair or mayor look good at the end of the fiscal year.
Now .... keep you eye on the financial statement for the next month or two and you'll discover "over" expenditures.
Hey! we work with it every election year .....
They can still opt out of the pay increase for themselves and leave that money there for a new employee, much needed by sheriff's dept.

rESPONSE: yOU'RE ON TARGET. The commissioners have a list of items that they get especially concerned with around election tim.
But here's the latest.

County Commissioners Gardiner and Jimmar and Rep. Black are claiming they knew nothing about the proposed "Bill 496" which was published in the legal paper - page 8 of the legal section of Colbert County Reporter on Thursday, Feb. 2, for raising the monthly compensation of probate judge Crosslin to 90% of the 31st Judicial Circuit judge.
Word from Gardiner and Jimmar is to CALL REP. BLACK AND SEN. DENTON immediately and tell them you are against this bill which was actually written and submitted by the probate judge himself -- without their knowledge and without their permission.
Voter alert!
Call Sen. Denton and Rep. Black and tell them NOT to pass the bill written by Prob. Judge uping his salary to 90% of the total amount of compensation paid the circuit judge of the 31st Judicial Circuit. His bill (LRS2010-496) will have to be published 3 more times before going to Montgomery for a sponsosr!
Stop it now by letting Denton and Black know that the voters and the county commissioners are AGAINST.
The TD didn't report it because the TD doesn't really care about the NEWS STORIES that are important to our area. They are a disappointment. You watch the HSV stations and you get Huntsville news. You read the TD and you get irrelevant stories. Congrats to Alabama for teacher certification -- and how many predators have been arrested or removed from our schools this year? They report that Bob Riley was in town today about Wilson Dam Road -- who cares? It's more important for us to hear about the filmmaker attempting to secure money for a documentary and that the endowment collections are decreasing and telling us how much the state relies on federal funds. Very little RELEVANT to the Shoals directly news.

Yes, our local politicians are failing us, but so are our news sources and other city and county leaders. The only way to know is to stay involved. THanks for the post to let us know something that is relevant to the next election and who needs to be voted out!

This doesn't surprise me bout our PB He doesn't like to answer to anybody, especially to our County Commision If this bill passes he won't have to answer to anybody. His income will be tied directly to the Judicial Circuit Judges income which is much higher due to the higher office. It will not leave a choice for we the voters or commission & Crosslin knows this. since the money will have to come out of the general fund a " a real gentleman" would go about asking for a payraise above the table and not under. This goes to show that Crosslin thinks our county commissioners would be too dumb to find out about this. Had it not been for Emmitt Jimmar they probaably wouldn't hav

Why end a long and storied tradition?

RESPONSE:
This is the attitude that's kept politicians in office long enough for them to retire on us. Perhaps you enjoy the good old boy's sucking up to you at election time and making you feel important, huh?
If you like things the way they have always been, get the*^%&@#@ out of the way of those who want a change for the better.

We can start a revoluation as we did when the
courthouse got cleaned out.

Hey! Good idea. I heard that Nancy Hearn is wearing her new high-salaried "attitude" just about as high as Prob. Judge Crosslin.
She's holding alimony checks turned in on the first of the month until the last of the month for the recipients.
This penalizes a lot of women who can't make ends meet and their utilities bill has to be paid by the 22 of the month.
When the alimony check deadline is the first of the month for getting it in to Hearn, she now uses the money for as long as possible before passing it on (as is her job to do!) immediately to the person for whom it is paid to begin with.
Hearn definitely needs an opponent next time around. She made the statement to one old lady who begged her to "turn my alimony check over to me because I'm behind on my utilities bill already and this never happened until you changed the rules so you get to hold it until the end of the month," .... her response was that she is her own boss, like it or not, and it will be done my way!"

Agree!! Hey, you can tell by her new outfits that she gets her paycheck right on time for her monthly shopping sprees. But no law against that. She' enjoying the money and the power of being on top ---- for this term at least. No way does she sympathize with divorcees who're -- like the old lady, who can't work (in her 70's) and really are suppose to get their checks the week it is turned in to Hearn's office.
Why, did Hearn change the rules when this causes a hardship on the person who is waiting for their check to meet their monthly bills?
Shame on this nasty "attitude" of Hearns.
The Times Daily did in fact print the article concerning the raise for County Employees. It also stated in the article that the elected officials were EXCLUDED from the raise (there's a law about that too). If you really want to be disturbed about something, check out the salaries of the girls that work in the Probate Judge's office. If the majority of them stay twenty years their salary will still not amount to $27,000.00 which would be the salary raise the Probate Judge is seeking for one year. Now that's sad!!!!

Since you know so much about this, why not some letters to the editor? Or, how about digging a little deeper and provide the "laws" referred to in the commissioners' pay increase??

RESPONSE: No - that's disgusting! and sure-fire proof that PJ Crosslin could care less for anyone but himself. Why, he should be in there fighting for his employees but has he ever given any of them a single thought? It's time to get rid of him and we hope the employees will be smart enough to lead the parade in campaigning against him.

@Perferthetruth: Your statement is so TRUE. It is sad as to what those girls make. It can't seem to keep many employees for 20 years, and I wonder why.
Yes it seems true that he don't care about noboby but himself. Why fight for those girls when he is not benefitting from it. Even if those girls campaign against him, he always still seem to pull through. I find that strange considering his office is in charge of tallying the votes.
