This is by no means a personal attack on Mama Jean or the staff. I don't know her personally. I wish I knew her real name. This is just a rant about my experiences at her former Garden Gate and now Mama Jeans.

Back in 2006, 2007, my wife worked at a business in Muscle Shoals. Garden Gate was a convienent spot to eat on my wife's 1 hour lunch. Or so we thought.

We tried it probably 10 times during her lunch hour. This was normally between 4-5. Normally it would be pretty busy, but not packed. We would normally order something fairly simple. My wife would order grilled chicken. I would order a hamburger steak with a baked potato, something of that nature.

IT WOULD ALWAYS TAKE FOREVER..BOY..DO I MEAN FOREVER. We had the same experience at least 5 times we went there. We would wait 45 minutes to an hour on our order, while every 5 minutes a waitress would came out and say, "oh its coming out of the oven now. It will be right out." Ok, fine. So it takes forever and makes my wife late for work. Its really tasty right? WRONG, the food would always arrive cold and under cooked. Needless to say, we stopped going.

Fast forward to this afternoon. My wife and I are visiting relatives out in spring valley. We were both VERY hungry. We decide to give Mama Jeans a shot since it was very near our location. It's been 3 years since our last experience with "mama jean." Service had to be better, right?....

NO IT WAS NOT BETTER..

We went in at 4pm. Or order was promptly taken at 4:05. I got 4 grilled chicken tenders with a baked potato and beans with cornbread. My wife got chicken n dumplings with corn, green beans and slaw...

tick tock tick tock tick tock..

4:20 rolled around, NO FOOD. The waiter come by and said "oh its coming out of the oven right now, sorry."

TICK TOCK TICK TOCK

4:28 rolled around a waitress come by and said "tenders right? sorry, its just coming out of the oven."

4:36 I summon a lady working the register. She looked annoyed and said "I'll check on it."

AT LAST.. AT 4:41 our food arrived.

Took 36 minutes, better be good and hot?

NOPE

She set the plate on the table. I specifically asked for a potato was no butter. The waitress said "didn't you want no butter on that." I said, "yes." She said "Oh well, they put it on there." She put the plate down and walked off. NO, I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.

My baked potato was not even near done. It was borderline raw. My cornbread was hard as a rock. The pinto beans were ICED COLD. I mean ICED cold.

My wife's chicken n dumplings were tasty and warm. However her green beans, corn were both ICED cold.

I wont even mention the fact that I never got a refill on my drink. I sat at the table from 4:45 to 5:05pm with nothing to drink. Nobody ever offered to get me anything. Nobody even came around to check.

I will never EVER go back to a business operated by this woman. I understand the restaurant business. I understand these little "meat and 3s" are popular around here because its cheap country food. I don't care how cheap a place is. If the food and service is terrible, why bother?

The place is an ABSOLUTE joke in my personal opinion.

Again, I hope nobody gets offended. I am just extremely upset over the service.

Boogie your problem absolutely has to do with the time of day that you are going. Most restaurants aren't fully staffed at 4 pm. The best cooks who can turn out plates in under 10 minutes are used during the busiest hours (prob lunch time at this place.) I wouldn't be surprised if they only had one person running the entire kitchen (and washing dishes) at such an early hour as 4.

Now... why I think they still suck anyway. My job requires me to work at various sites throughout the shoals area. There have been times when I was very near Garden Gate/Mama Whateveritisnow. I ate there regularly. We got there everyday at 11. It didn't take long to notice that they were re-heating the veggies from the previous day. You could easily tell by taste and consistency, as well as the undeniable pattern on the menu written on the wall.

I used to kind of enjoy the place, but once I figured this out, I have never been back.

My advice to Garden Gate.... If you don't change the food, at least get prettier waitresses.

Keenan, no, it was fairly busy. I could see some of the kitchen from my seat. I saw at least 3 different guys put up orders. I heard one cook say "these orders are piling up..yall needa hurry"..then i heard one of the waitresses yell "where are the beans i asked for 10 minutes ago."

The place seemed flawed all the way around.
