If ESPN & Disney both would go out of
business, well that would be just great...

 -----------

ESPN is still dragging down the profits of owner Disney Co as fourth quarter fiscal reports come in. It is a pattern that has repeated itself all year.

The latest financial report notes that Disney had an “unexpected” drop in profits and also confirms that ESPN is still losing subscribers by the millions, Reuters reported.

After the fourth quarter report was revealed, Reuters noted that Disney profits were down once again, “dragged down by a poor performance at its cable business, including a drop in subscribers at ESPN:”

Revenue from Disney’s cable business, which includes ESPN and Disney Channel, fell marginally to $3.95 billion in the fourth quarter, while analysts on average were expecting a rise to $4.06 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

ESPN, Disney’s cash-cow, has been trying to combat subscriber declines by joining smaller bundles of cable channels and developing a streaming service it will sell directly to consumers.

“Disney’s total revenue fell to $12.78 billion in the quarter ended Sept. 30 from $13.14 billion a year earlier,” Reuters added.

Yet, despite the millstone of ESPN around the company’s neck, Disney CEO Bob Iger put a sunny face on the financials insisting that things are looking up.

In a recent company investor call, Iger claimed that he was “heartened” by the fact that ESPN’s subscriber losses weren’t quite as bad as they were in the previous quarter.

Iger also said he was impressed by the new advertising scheme, especially for sports products.

“We’re pleased with trends we’re seeing on the OTT side where we’re seeing a nice pickup in subs,” the Disney CEO said. “They obviously believe that the sports fan is potentially a primary customer of new OTT services.”

The company is set to invest heavily in direct-to-customer sales as opposed to cable bundling with a new product line to be launched in spring of next year.

“Our goal here is to be a viable player in the direct-to-consumer space, space that we know is very valuable to be in,” Iger said. “We believe creating a direct-to-consumer relationship is vital to the future of our media businesses and it’s our highest priority this year.”

Finally, Iger touted the “significant” increase in “out of home,” or device streaming, viewing recent reports have shown.

“We feel good about what we’re seeing. While there’s obviously a lot of attention paid to ESPN and the loss of subs and all that, we’ve always been bullish on ESPN. …We like where ESPN is these days. …We think the trends we’re seeing are giving us reason to feel good about the business,” he concluded.

Over half of NFL players and personal have no clue what's going
on with the National Anthem, their ignorance is that's needed to
direct them in any direction the leaders point such a easily trained
body of stupidity. Tucker Carlson had a guest 11/10/17 that stated
the Anthem promoted slavery, but it was clear the black school
teacher didn't understand the meaning of the lyrics from the start.
What's a mother to do.....??

Cable is expensive.  A lot of people are cutting the cord in favor of streaming services.  If you know where to look, you can find a stream for any sporting event.

So humor us, what is your interpretation of the third verse?

The third verse, or one line in the verse, a verse that is never sung? The verse that says how the battle raged and-
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave

That line?

Star Spangled Banner Lyrics Verse 3

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Meaning of Star Spangled Banner Lyrics Verse 3

● Francis Scott Key describes the British as arrogant and boastful in the lyrics 'that band who so vauntingly swore'
● He is venting his anger at the British with the "foul footsteps' pollution" lyrics inferring that the British poisoned the ground on which they walked
● But the poison and corruption had been washed away by the blood of the British
● The Star Spangled Banner lyrics "the hireling " refers to the British use of Mercenaries (German Hessians) in the American War of Independence
● The Star Spangled Banner lyrics "...and slave" is a direct reference to the British practice of Impressment (kidnapping American seamen and forcing them into service on British man-of war ships). This was a Important cause of the War of 1812
● Francis Scott Key then describes the Star Spangled Banner as a symbol of triumph over all adversity

Yes, what is a mother or father to do. Our children are in school being "taught" by so called teachers that have no business trying to teach, that are puking out their liberal BS on them daily. They are so ignorant of history that they can take one line, in a verse that is never sung, and decide to call up their fake outrage to produce another episode of their "perpetually pi**ed off" show. Then when they cause an uproar that disrespects our flag and military, past, present and future, it puts their ignorance out there on display. But, flaunting their ignorance is the only thing the left can do, and they do it well.

The offending term, "hirelings and slaves." has two meanings. Directly, it refers to British mercenaries (hirelings) and freed slaves used as soldiers.   Indirectly, the phrase came to mean just nasty people that decent people wouldn't wish to associate with -- nothing to do with black slaves or blacks.

Another example is printer's slang.  The cheap black ink that comes off on one's hands when reading a newspaper used to be called the black curse.  In time, because of the reference to blacks, it was changed to the printer's curse.

Both the French and German anthems has nasty things to say about other European nations.  Now, those parts are left out.  We could just drop the third verse.

It is dropped. No need to rewrite history because of it. Some anti-American piece of useless flesh, intent on stirring up a mess, brought it to the players' attention after they put their spin on it. As usual the uneducated, ignorant, American hating liberal mob ran with it with no research or interest in finding the truth.

Every day there is something else we are attacked for saying or doing, no matter how innocent the words or action. The word or action upsets some gay person, woman, transgender, bi-sexual, black, asian, illegal, muzzie, whatever, unless it's someone perceived as "white", and the one using the word or doing the action is set upon, attacked, vilified, has calls against them for their total destruction. The kneeling protesters say it's not bothering anyone, they aren't disrespecting anyone, but have been told over and over by people from all walks of life that it offends them, they are disrespecting them or their family, but yet the "kneelers" refuse to stop. So much for caring about other's feeling and comfort. They are going to disrespect who they want to disrespect and if you don't like it, too bad. Why? That's the question out there that the slops refuse to answer.

Head of police organization: Colin Kaepernick's socks 'disrespectful' and NFL at fault

Did they care? Did he care? He** no, but we are supposed to respect and support him and others doing this crap.

That's exactly right and exactly why you don't drop anything they
drive to suck the very blood from America's true identity. They will
change the entire history of this country if they can, not because they
think it's the right thing to do but because they are hate filled racist
and want the freedom to destroy what's not theirs to destroy.
Illegals, liberals, non/anti Americans and large segments of minorities
are too ignorant/stupid to realize how good they have it nor how very
damm bad it could be in a country without the protection they receive
while they continue to strive to forfeit their privilege of citizenship.
