Not long ago we only had one of the newer style Frozen Yogurt type places, Frostbites and now we have Four (Frostbites, Makadoos, Yogurt Mountain and Menchies).   There is no doubt, and possibly it's location, that Yogurt Mountain has the most business but Menchie's did just open it's doors on June 21st.

From my experience all have some great flavors but of the four Menchies, I personally believe, to be the best.  While all offer a wide variety of candies and toppings Menchies seems to have Yogurt that most accurately resembles the name it's given.  For instance their Peach truly taste like sweet peaches and all other flavors are spot on.  Others may feel that the other places are also spot on but maybe it's my peculiar taste but that's not the case for me.

I'm glad that we are seeing more and more businesses take a gamble on the Shoals area as well.   I do though miss TCBY, which I thought was excellent Yogurt, and I also miss Baskin Robbins as we don't really have that many Ice Cream places.  We also haven't seen the type of Ice Creamery that has become popular in some locations such has Cold Stone, Maggie Moo's, or Marble Slab Creamery.  When down at Panama City Beach recently I also tried a new Ice Cream store called Hersey's.  We did have Bruster's make an attempt at entering the area and some private, locally owned places are still in business like the one on Mall Road, behind the Theater, and Water Wheel in Muscle Shoal.  I'm also surprised that Dairy Queen has, like Long John Silvers, vacated the area completely.  At least we do have Drink Box and Chat and Chew to provide soft serve offerings as well as McDonalds or Burger King if you count those but they do offer soft serve also.

As for a review I really like Menchies and so far it's become my favorite.  There are a few flavors at Frostbites that I really like, like the Yomazing Vanilla and No Sugar Added Pralines but I think Menchies will continue to grow in popularity due to their spot on flavors and being the most reasonable price for their offering.

Where is Menchies located?  How much is a normal serving?

But last time I was in Frostbite, I thought it a little expensive.

I absolutely adore Cold Stone, Maggie Moo's, and Marble Slab Creamery, and am willing to pay top dollar for their products.

I miss the Dairy Queen in Muscle Shoals.  It appears franchisees were required build new facilities, and many owners refused to make the investment.  The owners just got their previous building paid for--and were not willing to borrow a small fortune to build the new buildings.

I will make one correction to my post.  It seems cost wise Frostbites will still be the most affordable, per ounce, because both Yogurt Mountain and Menchies are the same price at $0.49/ounce but I still stand by the belief that Menchies has the most spot on flavors.  I had also forgot about Trowbridges but I really never found them to be exceptional and location and times are also not the best.

Since their opening we've been a fairly regular at Menchies and can't say that I've missed the others for I still say that Menchies is so SPOT ON with their flavors that when you take that sample or flavor in your mouth, if you had your eyes closed, I dare say you could easily guess the actual flavor.

For instance, today, tried their ICS or short for Ice Cream Sandwitch which showed a picture on the label of several Ice Cream Sandwiches and the taste was exactly what you get with a great Ice Cream Sandwich with the vanilla and chocolate wafer taste coming right through.  I'm certainly not downing Frostbites or Yogurt Mountain for they also have some flavors that are very good but none of the others comes close, my opinion mind you, to Menchies offerings.  As one poster put above, they are on FIRE and the owners are right there along with the workers, hands on, and are very receptive to request or comments and you really can't ask much more than that.
