The Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) has written a book (HORRORS!) without telling his GOP puppetmasters what he was up to. He also has been making speeches and accepting gratuities, which he pockets for himself rather than, say, turning the loot over to the RNC. There seems not to be anything illegal about taking that money, but it rankles a lot of Republicans, since contributions have fallen way off during Steele's tenure.

Steele, in a couple of recent interviews, has suggested bluntly that the GOP critics of these actions should just "shut up." Numerous GOP Congressional staffers and other GOP faithful close to seats of party power are leaking all over the place to the effect that Steele is making a lot of GOP leaders very uncomfortable.

Will Steele be canned and replaced? That raises more uncomfortable issues for the fractured Republican party. Its wingnut fringe, A.K.A. the "tea party" faction, is becoming increasingly noisy, numerous, and influential and would very likely oppose seating a new chairman from the party's dwindling moderate ranks. Moderates, already uncomfortable with the embarrassing antics of the tea party crowd, will oppose the radicalizing of the party that would be signalled if some perceived (and probably real) extremist were to succeed the unpopular Steele.

Who knows what evil lurks?????

Are you having "wet dreams" again? Wink
Just "Steele" a look at some of these articles, marksw, and decide for yourself just how much of a rock of stability Steele is for the GOP. This story is all over the media, marksw; the links below could be multiplied, but this will more than answer your silly, insulting, lowbrow brain fart:

From the National Journal: http://hotlineoncall.nationalj...1/gop_furious_at.php

From the Washington Times, house organ of the right wing--"To the further consternation of party elders and many rank-and-file members, he has embarked on a promotional tour for his new book, 'Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda.'"

From Huffington Post:

"Republican operatives are privately furious with RNC Chairman Michael Steele for predicting on Monday night that the GOP will not take over the House of Representatives in 2010.

One strategist called the comment "stupid," arguing that it will put the party in a bind when it comes to candidate recruitment and generally lower expectations and excitement over the 2010 elections

How do you like your loose cannon now??!!
I wouldn't worry too much about it BetternPoo. The Democrats will defeat themselves. You have already seen a 20% swing with the independents.

There is a very small ideological liberal base. The rest of us want jobs, security, and a future for our kids that doesn't involve being slaves for the Chinese.

If I put it any clearer the snakes on your head would probably gasp.

Maybe Steele is smart enough to see that the GOP has departed mainstream America. Mainstream America (wingnut fringe) has created their own group (tea party) and are (becoming increasingly noisy, numerous, and influential). In fact the tea Party will be holding their own first ever National Convention in Nashville next month. What affect will this have on the Republican party? No one knows yet but it will be interesting.
