Anybody else catch this? Muscle Shoals city is buying the Backyard Burgers building on Avalon Ave and spending $800,000 on top of that and then turning around and leasing the building for $2000.00 a month to Zaxbys. A sweetheart deal because just on $800,000 the payment would be about $6,400 a month. The city is also giving a up 50% on sales taxes.

Remember this is the city trying to raise property taxes because the schools have overspent again. They want to raise our taxes and give it away with dumb deals like this.

This is just plain wrong and nothing but backyard politics. I’m sure the other eateries feel cheated.

Jobe,
We have become a fascist country. The government partnering with corporations for so called free enterprise. That worked out great with the tower by the dam, gave us a great mile long facility to make railroad cars, bailed out wall street so them rich folks could get a bonus, and financed to auttomobile industry.
Its a win win, companies put out little money, make big profits, or if they go broke, you and i pay. Isn't capitalism great?

What do you want? Communism? Socialism? Dictatorship?
What will it be?

The railroad car plant died out because of the economy in which everyone lost money. The tower by the dam was saved by the AEA even though I do not agree on why they put an expensive eatery up there. I think the hotel is a good thing.
Corporations are not bad. It is the people that run them that are either corrupt or just plain stupid. Corporations create jobs for you, government create jobs to control you.

One other thing "we have become a fascist country"???
Please give examples how we are like the Germany in the 30s and 40s?

First off this is not capitalism. This is communism. The state in this case the city will invest our tax money and decide what product to sell; that would not be capitalism. This is such a terrible investment by the city we must have idiots on the CC. I wonder if these officials even looked at one net present value of cash flows for this project. The city does not even state how much they will pay for the building only that they will spend up to $800,000 on renovations and improvements. Lets assume they also spend $250,000 for the building that is an intial cash outlay of $1,050,000. Assume a cost of capital of 3% for inflation. The cost of capital should be higher but its basically free since its tax money. This zaxbys will have to serve 1,062 at $6.50 per person every single day of the year and the NPV will be a whopping $849.00. Now assume that they feed only 450 at $6.50 per person every single day of the year the NPV will be a whopping NEGATIVE $(376,894.60) . So for this to be a good investment for the Taxpayers this Zaxbys will have to feed roughly 10% of the population of Muscle Shoals. Don't see it happening but at least now when all the tourists come to take pictures of that fountain at City Hall they will have a place close to eat subsidized by your and my tax dollars. I can't wait to see who owns the building and who owns this LLC. If the city has money for this bull they need to fix the track around the football field.

That ain't capitalism...

Sorry Renegade, my entire post was supposed to be sarcastic.

OK...I guess I missed that because I actually agree with your opening 2 lines:

"We have become a fascist country. The government partnering with corporations for so called free enterprise."
I'm a long time business owner in the city of Muscle Shoals and like many other local business owners, have struggled to stay open through a very difficult time for small business in a down economy. We have paid our electric, sewage, water bills to the city of Muscle shoals, Kept our license fees and taxes paid etc. So where do all us business owners who have helped foot the bills for many years for thecity of M.S., go for a ZAXBY deal or any kind of assistance from the city government?
Any fool(even a politican) can see the numbers on the ZAXBY deal don't work. So these people are either stupid or crooks, either way they have no business representing the people of Muscle Shoals.
