We probably don't like him because he is a carpetbagger. We don't need him to talk about how bad we are. We have Jay Leno and David Lettermen do that for us.

Neil Young is NOT A JINGOISTIC, HATE FILLED PERSON. If anything he represents the best of what the South has to offer. Much Like William Clinton, and Jimmy Carter, and Al Gore.

EdEKit,
I might have misunderstood you here. Are you suggesting that he's from the south? He was born in Toronto, Canada (which those in north Canada might consider the South, I suppose). Anyway, I want to extend a friendly offering to you. Tread carefully in these waters. A person who is not a southerner (like yourself) who chooses to tell southerners what might or should be insulting to them and then tell them what the south has to offer is walking into a shark tank.

I told my father what I thought, I told my mother what I thought, I told my sixth grade art teacher what I thought, I told my college professors, and my commanders in the Army what I thought, and just cause there's lots of sothernerns I ain't about to stop short of telling them what I think they shoud be insulted by.
AND THE COLLARY OF THE GOLDEN RULE APPLIES TO ME AS WELL AS YA'ALL.

According to a documentary on Skynyrd a couple of years ago. Then band felt the same way about Young... as the lyrics were put into Sweet Home Alabama. After learning what Youngs song was about,.. again, according to the documentary, Young and Skynyrd became friends. Dont think it went as far as fishin buddies, but there was no animosity(sp) felt towards Young from members of Skynyrd.

Neil Young's political views can be debated. His artistry and genius as a musician/songwriter/performer, in my opinion, can not. He is from a time when artists had the courage to risk commercial success by expressing relevant points of view in concerts and on vinyl. He did not grab a microphone and recite the most popular 15 second sound bite of the day, and then launch into a song about pick up trucks or ho's in the 'hood. And, he performed in plaid flannel shirts way before anyone in Seattle.

My point is that he didn't have to travel down here to find racism. There is probably more racism up North. Everybody wants ro put down the South. I hope they continue that way so they won't come down here and mess it up. Jesse jackson and Martin Luther King are southern men too
