Dairy Queen officially opens today in Florence while Logan's Roadhouse has set Dec. 8 as its opening date in Muscle Shoals.

Meanwhile, two additional restaurants recently began operations in Florence, and a restaurant and grocery store are considering Muscle Shoals locations.

Burger Depot is close to opening at the former Hamburger Jadd's location on Florence Boulevard, Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock said.

"They've got it all painted up and are really close," Haddock said.

He said Dairy Queen is set to open its doors today, which is creating a great deal of online interest.

"Dairy Queen on our city Facebook and Twitter pages has generated more hits than any of the other restaurants we've put out there," Haddock said. "When we announced Starbucks, it probably drew a few more hits, but it was very close between them."

Dairy Queen is at the former Back Yard Burgers location on South Court Street. Carla's Sandwiches and Burgers was in the location most recently.

"It's a good location, especially for the downtown traffic," Haddock said, adding he also anticipates a great deal of business from University of North Alabama students.

Melissa Bevis, of the city's One Stop Shop, said two other restaurants recently opened in Florence. They include the Dough Roller bakery, at 1326 N. Pine St., and Rising Pizza Crust and Hop, at 4136 Florence Blvd.

She said Genghis Grill, which offers a create-your-own-stir-fry Mongolian grill, likely will open at 2871 Florence Blvd. in mid-February.

Logan's officials said the restaurant at Woodward and Avalon Avenue will open Dec. 8. The 6,900-square-foot restaurant will seat 248 and have 130 employees, according to a company release.

Muscle Shoals city officials said Publix is looking at a Woodward Avenue location for a grocery store, and Chick-fil-A is considering a spot on Avalon Avenue for a restaurant.

_____

If IHOP returns to Florence, they had better give better service than they gave at the previous incarnation.  I tried them twice and both times there were very few other customers and it still took them 10 minutes to take my order and another 20 to deliver it.  They never assimilated their fecal material in an orderly arrangement.
