Scene: The sub-basement of the RNC. Rats have come out of their holes and moaning in unison.

Head Rat:

“Boys, we’re gonna git our asses handed to us in November with this Donald Trump. We gotta have to come up with something, anything, to rally our party.

"It’s time to throw the NRA under the GOP bus ….NOW WAIT A MINNIT….Hear me out. And come out with some kinda gun legislation that will cause the Dems to crumble. Bring ‘em down. We need to OWN the assault rifle/terrorist thing, and create the biggest anti-gun legislation EVER!!!  Let’s git her done! Cause IF WE DON’T, WE’RE HISTORY!"

More restrictions on firearms to end the violence by jihadim?  Let’s see how well that’s working with other government programs.  Certain drugs are either illegal or only allowed with a doctor’s prescription, isn’t that so!  There is even a specific law enforcement agency to enforce the laws – the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).  Yet, within the US many tons of illegal drugs are grown and manufacturer.  Law enforcement at all levels struggle to stem the flood.  Billions are spend, thousands imprisoned, yet the flood continues.  Outside our borders, even more hundreds of tons come over the borders, under the borders, by plane, ship, submarine, truck and on the backs of illegals. Government, at best, catches a minor amounts.

Entering the nation or over staying a visa is illegal. There is even a federal law enforcement agency to stop the flow – the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE).  Yet, there are at least 11 million illegals living and working amongst us.  Billions are spent to stem the tide, yet still they come.

There is a federal law enforcement agency to keep illegal firearms and explosives under control and legal firearms in the hands of citizens without criminal records – the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).  Yet, this agency was responsible for one of the largest single transfer of firearms to drug cartels.

If the government can’t keep out millions of illegals, hundreds of tons of drugs from being manufactured in the nation or smuggled into the nation, how are we to believe they will do much to control firearms, once they are made illegal for law abiding citizens?  There is no magic spell that would suddenly render the government competent to control firearms, when it has proven barely competent to control drugs and illegals.  Firearms are easily manufactured.  The Dutch made submachine guns out of bicycle parts in WWII.  During the Spanish Civil War, some of the finest examples were made in machine shops.  The Brits turned out the Sten gun quickly and easily in small shops. With modern manufacturing, many of the parts can be stamped out, rather than made on laths.  We are on the brink of 3D printing firearms out using metal powders.  Magazines used to be the weak point in manufacturing because special machines were required to make them.  Israel made their own Uzis, but relied in magazines made in Europe for years.  Now, magazines may be made of high impact plastic on commonly available equipment.  I have one from Israel that survived being run over by an army 2.5 ton truck (deuce and a half).  Those magazines may now be 3D printed.

Just another government effort to spend billions, hamper law abiding citizens, deny another civil right with little to show for their efforts.   Besides, it worked so well for the French and Belgians.

Others might not notice, but your reply utterly fails to address the core substance of my post, which is the desperation on the part of Trump and the Trumpites to establish that he favors some kind of responsible control of weapons designed purposefully to kill lots of people. None of your examples establish any reasonable basis for continuation of such things as the gun show loophole or the freedom of persons on the no-fly list to buy firearms of all kinds.

How would the gun show loophole, as you call it have stopped either San Bernadine or Orlando?  About 99 percent of firearms sold in a gun show must be verified like those at a store.  Only those sold by private persons outside the show in say the parking lot are exempt.  About the same as an alleyway in Chicago.

As to the no-fly list, as stated, its contains many persons not fully identified entered by an unaccountable bureaucrat. Hasn't lessons learned at the IRS and VA increased your wisdom by a dram or so?  Its a civil right as important as freedom of speech, press and religion.  Want to allow the voters' lists be cleared without recourse?  Come up with a method to allow one to be notified as to why he is on the list and recourse to clear his name without a costly court battle and we'll talk. I do agree with allowing delay of purchase when someone is on the FBI watch list until the FBI may further review his record.
