Put the non-violent criminals and illegals in the military. If the non-violent criminals come back they are set free, if the illegals come back they are made American citizens.
As someone who is in the military, and who has completed 19 months of command time with troops, my answer is a big NO. I had enough problems dealing with wild 18-22 year olds who for many the first time they had a significant salary (instead of Burger King flipper) and freedom away from home. In other words, some were not very mature, some were kinda mature, some were outstandingly mature. Throw criminals and illegals who do not speak English into the mix, you are asking for all kinds of trouble.
Legal aliens already can join the military, and they have a priority 1 path to citizenship over someone else. I know that for a fact as I had a few resident aliens in my unit when I was a battery commander in 3ID.
Second, illegal aliens are just that, illegal. They should be rounded up, and deported, period. Additionally, other than extreme life-saving cases, illegals should receive no public services. If they come to a hospital, for example, in an emergency, they should be treated, detained, then deported. Includes anchor babies (that needs fixing ASAP).
Third, criminals do not have the moral fibre to join the military...I.E. they fail the honor system of good citizenship.
First you dont have to be a US citizen to join the military, and that goes for illegals also. You dont even have had to set foot in the country to join. The military needs bodies plain and simple and they will do what ever it takes to get them.
It's going to take gigantic protest of thousands of American citizens like the criminal immigrants are doing before anything changes. The American citizens are just to lazy to it.

I've never participated in a protest, but that is definitely one I'd be in!
