You should have auto insurance, and if it's the other person's fault they should have insurance to pay your bills. I don't know what else they would be eligible for. One day I'd like for someone that's knowledgeable to explain what SS was intended to pay, and how a woman with carpel tunnel syndrome can draw disability. She does whatever she darn well pleases, doesn't even wear any kind of braces, I had to wear them for a long time, and will still wear them when I over do it. I have carpel tunnel but I sure don't get disability for it, and it doesn't stop me from working or doing things either. When people find out she's drawing disability for carpel tunnel you hear a lot of, "what the h***"? Not to mention all the other 'ailments' people claim.

On this one I sympathize with you, Best. Far too many people are drawing SS disability benefits for insufficient reason.  There is a big legal industry that thrives on this.  Some law firms do little else other than help people to pursue SS disability claims.  I doubt that the SS Administration has the resources to adequately investigate all the many claims filed.  Congressional committees investigate all kinds of things, but I doubt that you will see them investigating this.  It is fraught with "third rail" implications.

This thing was going on way before Obama was even a community organizer.

Snopes.com can be your best friend:

"AP- WASHINGTON D.C. - In a move certain to fuel  the debate over Obamas qualifications for the presidency, the group Americans for Freedom of Information has released copies of President Obamas college transcripts from Occidental College. Released today, the transcript indicates that Obama, under the name Barry Soetoro, received financial aid as a foreign student from Indonesia as an undergraduate at the school. The transcript was released by Occidental College in compliance with a court order in a suit brought by the group in the Superior Court of California. The transcript shows that Obama (Soetoro) applied for financial aid and was awarded a fellowship for foreign students from the Fulbright Foundation Scholarship program. To qualify, for the scholarship, a student must claim foreign citizenship. This document would seem to provide the smoking gun that many of Obamas detractors have been seeking.

The news has created a firestorm at the White House as the release casts increasing doubt about Obamas legitimacy and qualification to serve as president. When reached for comment in London, where he has been in meetings with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Obama smiled but refused comment on the issue. Meanwhile, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs scoffed at the report stating that this was obviously another attempt by a right-wing conservative group to discredit the president and undermine the administrations efforts to move the country in a new direction.

Britain's Daily Mail has also carried the story in a front-page article titled, Obama Eligibility Questioned, leading some to speculate that the story may overshadow economic issues on Obamas first official visit to the U.K.

One of the avenues of approach taken by "birthers" in their quest to demonstrate that Barack Obama is not eligible to hold the office of President of the United States is to try to demonstrate that, even if he was born in the United States, he gave up his U.S. citizenship somewhere along the way ... and if he's not a U.S. citizen, then he can't legitimately be President of the United States. Therefore, many birthers have gleefully seized onto the above-cited news report from April 2009, which purports that Barack Obama attended Occidental College in Los Angeles under a scholarship granted only to students of "foreign citizenship." However, this item isn't a news report at all — it's a hoax whose elements are all demonstrably false:

  • The article is datelined "April 1, 2009" and tagged "AP," supposedly signifying it came from the Associated Press news agency. The date is a giveaway to the hoax (it's April Fool's Day), and the text of the article does not at all fit the standard Associated Press stylebook guidelines.
  • There was no such group as "Americans for Freedom of Information" at the time this article began circulating (although someone has since registered a site using that domain name); in fact, a web site for the then-faux organization was established to poke fun at those who believed it did:
  •  From that web site: ( http://amfoi.wordpress.com/200...-walks-with-whisper/ &nbsp "Read these tiny words very closely: the group Americans for Freedom of Information does not exist, just like the supposed "AP article" you keep cutting and pasting into e-mails to your irritated family does not exist, just like the "Daily Mail article" referenced in the fake "AP article" does not exist. They're all fabrications. Fakes. Hoaxes. Ask yourself why you're so eager to believe these obvious fakes. No, really. Really, really ask yourself."

I never cease to be amazed at the willful ignorance (read that dumbness) of these "Birthers" .

Maybe this article can help explain how someone in a car wreck can draw SSI.

It is not in my universe of expertise to sort out who should get what and for what purpose. I suspect there are quit a few people drawing SSD that should not be eligible. If they are fraudulently drawing one or another of the social safety net programs, and get caught, they will have to pay it all back (I know someone who was found out or "narked on" ) . I agree with Contenda, the lawyers that advertise on those who would prey on our government are as much to blame as the people doing it.
I also doubt the government has the resources to investigate every applicant, especially now that the Republicans have cut government funding for the past 30 years, and I agree that fraud in the system has been going on probably every since it was established. However, this admin has gone after the big money people who are defrauding the system, and saving quite a bit of money.

I am reminded of a time when the sailors who were being discharged for end of enlistment tours and the ones who were being sent home due to misconduct were placed in administrative positions on Naval base. There were so many of them that people who were suppose to be discharged were still being paid and not working or doing any military duties, the bad actors were still on active duty drawing a paycheck and running wild on the base while all the time doing criminal actives off base, Oakland and San Francisco. So when people in charge of the system get to the point of doing things on how they feel things should be run and how to treat people who apply for benefits  then the system gets broken. Such as in the IRS and DOJ of the United States. How do you fix it? Burn it down and start over again.

However, this admin has gone after the big money people who are defrauding the system, and saving quite a bit of money.

Bull crap this admin is going after anyone. The scammers are their voter base, they aren't going to mess with them. Big money people are claiming ailments they don't suffer? Big money people are getting housing paid for by the government and renting out bedrooms/other rooms in those apartments/houses, and in some cases their living rooms where people sleep on the couch, for $3, 4, 5, 6 hundred or even more a month? One was going for $800.00 a month. Too, how does a single person, or a couple, manage to get more than a one bedroom apartment or house, paid for by the government, to start with?

Do big money people live with their 'baby mamma' (black AND white), in government housing, work, and not be responsible for any of the bills, medical care of their kids, and leave one weekend a month so she won't get tossed out?

Like you, I know of someone, (in this scam), that was turned in for scamming and nothing at all happened to her. Nice try but this has nothing to do with Republicans, As you posted, this has gone on for years. Funny, the government has the 'resources' to put people on the programs, but not enough resources to keep tabs on them? In this day, when everything anyone does is made public five seconds after they do it, they claim they CAN'T monitor something? BS. Oh, can't violate their rights?  I don't get how that's violating rights.

IF I was in need, and had to take assistance, I'd have zero problem with someone checking to see how I lived, or if I was scamming. I don't think honest folks with nothing to hide would mind either. I will never believe the ones scamming on SS disability can't be caught either. Maybe not all of them, but enough to discourage many others from trying it.
