I know it was wrong for her to allow the child to drink from a beer can. But if she is 21 and has an 8 and 7 year old, shouldnt a child abuse case have happened when she was 13 and pregnant?

Go back and read it again....it only identifies the one year old as being the 21 year old's son. The seven year old's mother was charged with abandonment for refusing to pick the child up. The eight year old's mother is not identified in any way.

This is just one horrible case of Child Abuse on the part of 2 separate parents!!! They should not only be stripped of their parenting rights, but should go to jail for a LONG time!!!

Crimes against Children should be a Class A felony and TOUGHER laws and sentencing to go with them.

I totally agree!!! But with the PLEA AGREEMENTS we have around here, that will only get them a very small amount of jail time... people who commit crimes toward the helpless children in our society should be gone for a VERY long time, VERY VERY long!!!

I'm glad y'all ain't wearing hoods and riding at night with ready made hanging nooses. There's nothing in that article that says the twenty-one year old mother of the one year old child had any other children AT ALL. In fact it specifically says that the seven year old belonged to another mother, who was nearly charged with child abandonment. The mother of the eight year old isn't identified.

You're ready to convict somebody of rape when there's not even a suggestion that this "mother of the year" has anything more than a child she got pregnant with when she was 19 years old. The age of consent in Alabama is 16.

alacharger, I agree with what you just said, I didn't see anything in the article that would suggest molestation. Just neglect and feeding a 1 year old beer.

But I still stand behind what I said, we need tougher laws for our children, they are helpless, at the mercy of parents or babysitters and anyone who violates that should be charged with a felony ... maybe THEN people would KNOW that crimes against children are SERIOUS. As long as we have the Plea Agreements and slap on the hand method of prosecution, people will keep doing what they are doing.

Somehow or another, a message has to be sent to people that our jobs are to PROTECT our children.
