At a time of inexpressible grief in the family of Gordon Schaffer, Papa John's CEO John Schnatter attended the slain man's funeral Saturday in Spring Hill and paid off all family bills related to his death.

Schnatter met with Schaffer's family at the service, including his sister Devan Cronin who said Sunday morning that the pizza chief was "visibly distraught" while visiting with them at the Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home Saturday morning.

Schaffer was killed Oct. 20 during an armed robbery at the Columbia Papa John's store at 1902 Shady Brook St. while working as crew leader on the night shift. In a post to the Facebook memorial page for Gordon, Cronin described Schnatter's benevolence as "more than just lip service".

When asked during questioning why he shot him, Fitzpatrick replied, “He wouldn't give me more money or my money."

When asked if he shot him to scare him, he stated, "I shot him to kill him.”

I imagine if the cops had to shoot Fitzpatrick that white house officials would have attended that funeral.

That and rioting in the streets.

His money.  I guess the Dollar Stores were withholding his money too.

Darious A. Fitzpatrick was arrested Wednesday and charged with killing Schaffer. He also faces charges related to the gunpoint robberies of two Dollar General stores earlier this month.
