I agree with a more durable permit, I dont think it should be attached to your license as driving and carry dont have anything to do with each other. 4 years would be nice also but any other states I have held a CCW you had to attend and pay for courses which are not required in AL. I dont quite know how I really feel about that. I suppose a prof test would be ok but like not wasting a day to stay current.

I agree, there should be a card, LIKE a drivers lisence, issued and renewed every 4 years like the DL.. unless the holder gets into trouble with the law, of course.

I think marriage license should be the same, and if you dont want to renew, you let it lapse!!! LOL!!! Hey, I am kidding about this last part, just wanted to add some humor!

Lots of Marriages dont make your 4 year criteria, but its a great idea.
I've maintained my TN CCW permit (obtained prior to becoming an LEO). Initial cost was $100 (for 4 years), paid thru the Tennessee Dept. of Safety. Renewal fee is $50. TN's CCW looks almost identical to their DL...it even uses the SAME DL number, hence an officer's ability to know about a Tennessee citizen's legal CCW status when their DL is run. Go to www.packing.org to check on CCW state-by-state reciprocity.

I, for one, would LOVE for EVERY state to be REQUIRED to recognized other states' CCWs (Good Faith and Credit issue)....but then, most states (in violation of NTE standards and agreements) won't even recognize an out-of-state teaching license. I may as well hope that Santa Claus starts visiting me, again...... Roll Eyes
I hold Alabama and South Carolina CCW permits. Alabama, just background check, $10, and good for a year...just renew it in person.

South Carolina I think was $50 for 4 years....I had to be fingerprinted, show proof of class, or in my case, proof I qualified with issue pistol (Beretta M9/M92FS) within the past 3 years.

Alabama is a piece of paper...not durable. I keep it behind my Alabama license. South Carolina improved their CCW permit...used to be photo, info, etc laminated. Now, it is similar to a DL. I prefer the DL version better, more durable...

All 50 states need reciprocal agreements...but Peoples Republiks of: Illinois, Nebraska (no permit at all), New York, and the worst of them all, Kalifornia, allow none, period, or very hadr to get. I like Vermont and Alaska's CCW permit: the state of (vermont or alaska) recognizes the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms, therefor, no permit needed for CCW.
Great minds think alike..LOL! I, too, qualified for my TN CCW with a Beretta 92FS. TN's CCW is renewable by mail....and is recognized by all surrounding states, except Missouri. Alabama's is recognized in Tennessee, as well.

FWIW, Florida recognizes MOST out-of-state permits. However, NO permit is required in Florida to keep a loaded handgun in your vehicle. It just has to meet (2) precursors: Be contained within a holster, zipped/closed case or glovebox, AND may NOT be 'on your person' ('2-step' rule). It MAY be loaded. Step OUT of the vehicle with it WITHOUT a valid CCW and you're an instant FELON, however.
