Shame on the Colbert County commissioners for giving the meager pay increase to their employees while, at the same time, promoting a bill before the state legislature to give the probate judge a much higher increase in pay!
Yep! The bill # LRS2010-496, states that:
"Effective the first day of the month after the effective date of this act, ANY JUDGE OF PROBATE OF COLBERT COUNTY for a period of 20 years or more (i.e., Tommy Crosslin to be exact)SHALL (not will) be entitled to receive as his or her compensation an AMOUNT EQUAL TO 90 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION PAID THE PRESIDING CIRCUIT JUDGE OF THE 31ST JUDICIAL CIRCUIT.
and get this part of the bill: THE COMPENSATION SHALL BE PAYABLE IN EQUAL MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF COLBERT COUNTY.
So - get ready all you citizens of Colbert County because when the general fund runs low and Tommy's paycheck runs due, they'll have to raise taxes to be able to build up the general fund.
Wanna know who sponsored this bill???? So do a lot more of us! They won't reveal the sponsor's name yet but you get one guess ---- Black in the House, Denton in the Senate. It'll pass before you get their phone numbers dialed to complain. Betcha!!

Wonder why Times Daily "You said it" won't print any of the comments they've received on t his subject?
The reporter made a big splash with the 3% raise for county employees, yet completely ignored reporting on the proposed bill from the courthouse to enact legislation to change the way probate judges' get pay raises. Formerly by a vote of the taxpayers but which will be changed if this new bill passes - which it will since nobody knows about it and the TimesDaily sure as heck ain't reporting on.
County commissioners need their butts kicked out of office for this one.
Does anyone find it amusing that Rep. Marcel Black has gone against everything his hometown supporters stand for by introducing the liquor, gambling and now this locked in payraise for the probate judge -- which will be 90% of a circuit court judges pay (not just his salary but all the perks added to his salary) for a jackpot of a deal for the only "20 year endowed" probate judge in this county?
Don't complain if you keep sending him back to Montgomery! Don't let the hipe of the Times Daily blind you with the "He's going to be the House Speaker - wow!" He's just going to make a bigger fool out of us for setting him up a notch higher. That's all.
Marcel Black is going to fall off the fence one day and be mortally ruptured. Biggest do nothing for the voters in a long time.
Needs to be retired or better yet, replaced bt a trained monkey, and yes he will continue to shame the voters as always. Thanik the lord for Mississippi.
VOTE THE BAST**DS OUT!
Our state is pathetic in our representation and we should be ashamed to send them back. Please stop doing what your "Pappy" did, send someone else down there besides the good ole boys and girls. They know Squat, but will not improve and that is a known and proven fact.

UPDATE! The report that went "un-reported" by TimesDaily's Russ Corey from the County Commissioner's meeting when they gave the 3% pay increase for employees, is this:
The pay increase ALSO included one for the elected commissioners themselves.
Now, how about that?
Commissioners Gardiner, Burleson, Keeton and Creekmore gave themselves a hidden pay increase. Commissioner Jimmar protested, voted against it and thereby denied himself the raise.
He is the only county commissioner who will not get the pay increase.
When he asked the other commissioners what they were going tell the voters "once they find out ya'll have given yourself a raise," the response from the others -- Gardiner, Burleson, Keeton and Creekmore, was that "they (voters) aren't going to know about it."
Jimmar's reply (which the reporter never reported) was, "Yes they are because I'm telling everybody I see!"
Hurray for Emmitt Jimmar who really does tell it like he sees it.
Didn't take long for Gardiner and Creekmore to jump on the crooked politicians' bandwagon so I join the fella in butt kicking them all out.

Hey - even "gentlemen" can be money grubbers. Specially when it's coming from the voter's wallet in the form of taxes to increase their take home pay. Ole Tommy knows all about that must know a lot more by convincing Denton and Black that they "owe him - big time" for his support and now it's their time to scratch his back awhile. These men help keep each other in office, honey, so wake up and smell the manure.

How many calls can yu muster to the "you said it" telephone line of TimesDaily asking why they won't print anything called in about Tuscumbia or Colbert County politics???
They're too busy trying to screw up city business in Florence by printing only stupid comments on that side of the river. Mayor Irons is the bull's eye to keep attention off what's going on in Colbert County, Tuscumbia, Sheffield, Muscle Shoals.

Response: Can't you see him now as speaker of the house in Montgomery with a wad of chewing gum -- chewing, smacking and wallowing it around in his open mouth while talking and grinning like a mule eating briars!
Watch the good ole yellow dog democrats vote him back in without any question about what he hasn't done and doesn't plan to do with regards to the voters who've called him so many times that he quits responding.
He'll tell you in a heartbeat that he doesn't have time to listen to what you think on any issue.

Responding to this is easy. "Yellowdog democrat" translated means: "I don't give any thought to what anybody stands for as long as they tell me they'er a democrat. I don't know what the party is promoting nor what the party stands for, but I'm sure as death that I'm going to keep vothing anybody on the party ticket back in office, even the devil if he's a registerd democrat."
I became heavily involved in the comissioners races last year. I campaigned heavy in Dist. 5 and helped get Creekmore elected. This is certainly a disappointment if true.
The real person who is shady and dirty on the commission is Rex Burleson. I campaigned heavy (I live in his district) to get him beat and we fell about 35 votes short. He got NACOLG to go over to Park Place and load up all the senior citizens and took them down to vote for him. That was the difference in the race.

Colbert County is in desperate need for leadership. Non of our representative officials care spit about us.
In the next election I will help lead a vote em all out campaign in Colbert County.

That description of chewing gum technique fits Lauderdale County Probate Judge Dewey Mitchell to a "T". Were you writing about him or about the Colbert County PJ? Is this maybe something that goes with the territory?

RESPONSE: It's definitely on the record that Gardiner, Creekmore, Keeton, Burleson -- all included in the employee's pay raise.
Jimmar voted OUT on this one and vowed to tell the voters what the others did.
The legal ad to increase the probate judge's pay was printed in the legal section of the little newspaper, Colbert Co. Reporter, page 8 in middle column. Word has it now that Crosslin wrote the bill himself and Denton will introduce it in the senate and Black in the house.
Vote'em out folks! But call them up and give them your opinion before this piece of garbage is passed. Your calls can make a difference because they will remember that you asked them not to vote or it even after they do.

OH NO - MEANT TO SAY MARCEL BLACK WITH THE CHEWING GUM.
Crosslin can't chew gum and walk at the same time.

NEWS FLASH -- He's all you say and more, i.e., he's a fox and he'll bite the hand that feeds him before you have time to vote him out! According to court house whispers, he wrote the bill for his pay increase himself. So, how about that for a gentleman? His profession is paying off in big bucks by knowing how to slip one under the rug without anybody knowing it except those who owe him a few favors from past elections such as Denton and Black.
And he smiles all the way to the bank.

You could not have said it any better. It's time for him to be voted out and someone with real class voted in. I have been at his counter buying a tag and seen how he treats people at times. Of course, if it is election year he is your best friend cause he wants that vote.
