I'm guessing Father Guido Sarducci--a breath of fresh air--young, articulate, and innovative.  Just the kind of pope needed!  And I would point out that there is no requirement that a new pope be chosen from among the College of Cardinals.

Excerpt:

<<<"Sarducci claims he wants to be a different kind of Pope—one who promotes tolerance and progressive values. His first priority is to formally bless the gay community in a spectacular service with Ru Paul as the Mistress of Ceremonies and it is rumored that The Village People will reunite for a special appearance.

Sarducci’s second priority is women’s rights and he plans to disperse free birth control for seven days and seven nights in St. Peter’s Square, much to the chagrin of the American Republican Party.

Sarducci tells me he has big plans for the future of the Catholic Church and though he chooses to surprise the world as he unveils his master plan, he hinted that he plans to change the dress code utilizing some of Hollywood’s “most flamboyant” designers.

“The world ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” Sarducci proclaimed as he excused himself and left to set an example as a new version of what he thinks “the Pope should really be about.”

It’s a new era and Sarducci will lead the way.">>>

I was wrong too, Red Baron! So was upside, PTL- although the dress code could use a little pizzazz;-) Could not be happier about this wonderful news. Pope Francis is a shocker in that he is a Jesuit, and South American- but, learning about him, I love him already!! Jank- as far as progressive, no, he is staunchly conservative. Blessed be God forever!!
Yeah, I know!! Father guido would really have been awesome- I just don't think we are ready for that degree of #charisma yet- maybe next time.. Jank- been reading heavily about our new Pontiff- seems he may be open to barrier birth control for disease prevention. So there's an incline of progress;-) The more I read, the more I like the guy. As a person. As Pope, obviously I respect and honor him as chosen by God through His cardinals. But as a man, his history is quite fascinating. I wonder if the argentines will warm up to Catholicism again, now that "their guy" has the job. Will be interesting to follow!!
Yeah, I guess you're right, Vic. In hindsight it's pretty clear. Now all this ugly stuff surfacing about his possible involvement in the dirty war? He seems to be a humble and holy man. I admit I'm not very familiar with Argentine history, but it will be very interesting to see if his homeland embraces him, and reembraces Catholicism. Is be interested in upside and Nathan's opinions on this, as I know they are much more well versed in history than I. Gentlemen?

I have no special knowledge of what the new pope did or did not do during the Dirty War in Argentina.  I do know that Hideous Henry Kissinger, one of the foremost of 20th-Century war criminals, gave the malevolent dictators of Argentina the blessing of the U.S.  You can read about it here:  http://www.guardian.co.uk/worl...dec/06/argentina.usa
