I went to the store web site and looked at the ad there. I assure you one thing! It makes WalleyWorld look sick! If Florence ever got a Publlix Wal-Mart would be history. Also mark this fact down. There will NOT be a Wal-Mart in 10 years according to the current pace. Management is not helping the disgruntled employees at all. Why do they hire 10 cashiers one week and a week later 9 of them gone? Anyway, Publix would be great for a change in Florence.

Publix, a privately-held company operating stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee, was founded by George W. Jenkins in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida. It has grown into a Fortune 500 company with more than 800 stores and is one of the fastest growing employee-owned companies in the United States.
I can't tell you how great Publix is - you just have to go and see. We have become more of the many people in this town who drive past all the sh*t hole grocery stores here almost once a week to go to Huntsville or Decatur to shop at the Publix. Why a town our size can't attract and support a decent - I just mean decent, not great - grocery store is beyond me.
Kind of think of Publix as the brand name and Wal Mart the generic. I for one would likely not step foot in Wal Mart if we had a Publix and Target in this area together. More and more people I know are going to Wal Mart less and less, or at least buying less there.

Of course Publix is not going to admit any interest in an area until the make an official announcement they are going somewhere. I believe they are a very smart company and will put one here when the demographics tell them the time is right...and this time is approaching rapidly. I believe once the Athens store is up and going you will likely see them quitely starting to move into this area as well. This area is poised for some positive growth in the near and distant future and I assure you all they are watching this area very closely.
I wonder if the store that is planned to be built on the east side of Athens will affect the Shoals area getting one in the near future? I mean, if people will drive to Madison to shop there, I'm sure they will drive to Athens. Publix may figure there is no need to build a store here.

OTOH, if the population of Limestone county can support a Publix, I don't see why the Shoals could not. I would hate to see any of the local stores go out of business, though. Competition for Wal-Mart would certainly not be a bad thing.

The Publix Supermarkets Charities is also in the top 5 Foundations in both assets held and dollars given in the state of Florida. http://www.cof.org/files/Documents/Government/StateGiving/FL.pdf

Our neighborhood store could always be counted on to donate food or dollars when asked.
Publix has a great variety and i sure wish we had one,but even a monkey would know that it would NEVER put walmart out of business that is just a very very silly statement,Walmart has the lowest prices and will match any sale price, and i'd much rather a TGI Fridays or a great sub shop than a stupid ass hooters you mention in every post,we need a place the huge majority would enjoy,no sincere Christian or DECENT family man would patronize a silly hooters, hell Zaxbys has wings anyway, but it is sweet that even teenagers can post their desire for a hooters
I don't think Florence needs a Friday's. Seriously, it's very chain-generic like Appleby's, Ruby Tuesdays, and Chili's which are already in Florence. I thought the one in HSV was good the first few times I went, and the Jack Daniels sauce items are good, but..I never go there anymore. Someone getting murdered point blank in the restaurant didn't help business there, but that had nothing to do with the restaurant..thugs just ended up acting out there.

I used to go to Wal Mart to buy groceries. Never anymore. After shopping in Publix or another nice grocery store, it just clicks.. you feel like you're in a real grocery store, the produce is better, store cleaner, nicer stuff to choose from, actually find people working there, don't have to wait in line forever, etc.. Saving a few bucks by shopping at Wal Mart just isn't worth it to me. It's also nice to support a business that isn't Wal Mart.
rookmaster, silly hooters? Would it help if the servers frowned? I agree with you. I cannot figure out what would be different about a beer at Hooters and a beer at Brinley's. It would be simpler to go to Walmart, buy a 6 pack, and stare at the women who are shopping there. Not all of them, of course. Maybe some of the Publix shoppers would also dress in that provocative Walmart fashion.
For the life of me, I can't see why people care if a Hooters is built or not. Let me preface this by saying I am a Christian, but I have been to Hooters several times. Did I feel bad about going? No. Did I drink any beer? No, because I don't drink. But if I had a few would that make me a bad person? I wouldn't think so. Maybe I'm just a bad Christian.

Seriously though, would a Hooters bring all sorts of seedy new people into town? Of course not. In fact, it would mostly be visited by the same people you see at Logan's, Texas Roadhouse, etc. If you don't want to go, you don't have to. I will just never understand why people think that just because they don't want something, the rest of the people around them should have to miss out too. That attitude gets so old.

I agree with joeycuda about Friday's. Nothing much different than what you can find at Applebee's or Chili's, two restaurants I already don't find very appealing. I would much rather us get the Longhorn Steakhouse that I heard was rumored to be looking at land beside Kohl's.
Since you mentioned Zaxby's and brought it up. I eat there a lot and enjoy the food and I have been going there for at least a year. My one thing and one thing only is for a place to be clean. They don't dust. The plane to your left and up as you go in has about an inch of dust on it. I make a note to look at it every time I go in there just to see if they cleaned it. And guess what, they finally cleaned it after a year but I know they only did that because they put the DVD player up there.
Good grief.. Longhorn? I would think that the Florence market is already saturated, but what do I know. I don't mean to be neg towards Longhorn, there's a couple here in HSV and it's pretty good.. I'd rather go there than Appleby's/Chili's/O'Charlies

Smoothcat is correct. The Hooters customers are already eating at every other restaurant in Florence. In an upscale snooty part of a town, it has upscale, snooty customers. In a college town, college kids, etc.. Even if it was tailored to good ole boys and college kids, Florence has an ample base of that.

If you went to the Hooters on University Dr. during lunch hours on a weekday, you'd mostly see geeky programmer/engineer types coming from Research Pk, guys in suits, business types, etc... At night, you'd see a mix of all classes and types of dress.

Anyone thinking that Hooters customers are typically rednecky non-Christians is extremely uninformed. I see more skin at Parkway Place mall..
Regarding Publix, it's a very good food chain that came out of Florida and expanded north into Georgia and Alabama. The chief competition to Publix is usually from Kroger. Publix has a great deli and several Publix brand products that are higher quality, in my opinion, than most store branded products made specifically for that store. I don't know how they would do in the Florence Market but their meat's are as good as or better than Winn Dixie's. I hope they do come to the Florence Market.

Regarding restaurants Longhorn is definitely a cut above Logans and/or Texas Roadhouse and I can't think of one steakhouse chain that i like better, certainly not Outback. Longhorn would be a welcome addition to the Shoals but like Publix it's only rumor that they are looking and you will get nothing but "we're not looking in that area now" from each of the headquarters if you ask. Both Longhorn and Publix would be very good additions to the area.

Regarding Hooters. I disagree about the statement that no good family man or Christian should go in there. I have no doubt if Christ were here walking the earth today or Hooters was in business in Israel then that Christ would have easily walked in and had a meal if such was the custom. If though you feel it's sinful to enter into Hooters or eat there then by all means don't for truly it is sinful if you do so (Romans 14) but to be judging everyone else by the standards or morals you set for yourself is not with Christ teachings. Hooters is just a themed restaurant that has fairly good wings, terrific Crab Legs, and over priced fries and hamburgers but other than that it's just another restaurant with a different style of food. I've always thought the best location for a Hooters in Florence would be that marina floating restaurant building down by McFarland Park. If we are going to impose restrictions on Christians or non-Christians about going into Hooters or keep Hooters from opening due to the fact that the waitresses wear short shorts or tops that might show their bellies then by all means lets impose the law to bring back Chastity belts, make bikini's illegal, require bathing suites to go down below the knees as in the 20's etc. etc. etc. We can get really restrictive here can't we.

This is the same link i used a while back and got an email and a phone call from them. Let them know in masses that our area would welcome a Publix. As they told me before, they have no plans to locate here at this time. But,...... maybe we can change their minds?..... Just fill out the info and send it.

Contact info for Publix...
Actually if enough people contact Publix and express interest it might not get a Publix here but it is sure to get the attention of the real estate department and possibly will contribute to their decision for expansion in this area in the coming future.

Plans as of now? Not that I have heard but they are looking and have secured a real estate agent to check out various locations in case they do make that decision so those of you that would like to see a Publix here it never hurts to go the their website and write a little note saying i sure hope you would consider one day locating a store here, I'd be sure to patronize a Publix located in the Shoals area. Or something like that.

...because you love people.

BTW, depending upon a RN's education, experience and area of practice, it's not uncommon to have starting compensation exceeding $60k/yr.

Of course, CRNAs are the king of the hill, with new grads out-the-door obtaining compensation packages of $160k/yr.

In CA, the state of CA is offering some hefty compensation packages for RNs.

Check out this site.

http://jobs.spb.ca.gov/wvpos/search_p.cfm?classcode=9275

RNs in San Quentin State Prison in Marin are salary ranged $96-111k/yr.

FYI, the average income for the San Joaquin Valley is approximately $40k. Per capita income in Marin County is approximately $45k (the highest of any county in the USA), while average individual income is approximately $71k/yr.

Corcoran State Prison in the SJV is where Charlie Manson is housed, and RNs there bring in a minimum of $87k/yr + benefits.
