Can our troops prevent a deadly war between Sunni and Shi'a Islam in any event? Do we want to?
Surely, no one thinks Iran can stay out of an unstable Iraq. Will Sunni Syria allow a Shiite government in Iraq, or will it go to war with Iran? Would you throw a party if that happened?
We have no crystal ball to consult, but is our continued presence there the best way to prevent large-scale violence, in the fashion of Korea?

Can I live with the bloody aftermath if we withdraw? you bet! If they want to kill each other, let them!
Can our troops prevent a war---? probably not, but I don't care. see above answer
Will Iran stay out? probably not. Let them all kill one another if they want to. (oops answer 1)
Would I throw a party if they went to war with Iran? No but I'll buy you a beer if we get out of Iraq asap.
Would our continued presence be the best way to prevent violence.? Probably, but then again see answer 1.
Let me ask you and Brentenman a ?.
Why would you think what we are doing by "staying the course" is reasonable? We are not at war, therefore all we are doing over there is providing targets, and throwing Billions of $ down that rathole. Why do you not advocate bombing a path thru Bagdad everytime they shoot at our troops? Don't you think a few of these types of attacts would make them think twice about keeping this nonsence up?.
I say either go to war and bomb the hell outta them, or get out!
