I know an elderly man who lives alone. He says that from time to time a nice lady visits him. She has a computer, and she asks him questions. She then helps him fill out some forms. He says she always gives him a hug before she leaves, and she always gives him some money 'for the electricity' the computer used.

He thinks she is from Medicare.

This seems very weird to me. Any ideas? I am sure it's a scam but I can't figure out what she is gaining by doing this over and over.

The only thing that occurs to me is that she is scamming medicare by filing home health claims?

She is from Medicare. She visited my MIL for several years. I had to be there to answer questions. Purpose is to makesure he is being treated properly- good care, bills paid, etc. After she enters info into computer she will tell him he can discard paperwork she has seen. I always thought the $2.00 kind of funny. It wasto defray power bills. My MIL did not trust the government and said that one day they would demand the money back. The money was in a special envelope when she went to thenursing home. Actually it was encouraging to me that Medicare was being checked.
Not a fraud. I participated in a survey with the same folks. I believe the lady is a contract person for Social Security. I was contacted by SS to verify that she had actually been there and how long she stayed. This survey covered Medicare, Drugs, medical expense and Dr.
visits and so forth. The purpose was to see if the elderly patients costs were being covered sufficiently and timely. It was very comprehensive and detailed. The lady was very nice and cordial. Never at any time was there and suspicion of a scam. My wife particpated if she wished and was interested in the program.
Rest assured there is no problem.
F350 and Loveshack. This is not a scam. Any verification you might ask for is given by the interviewer. There is no money involved except the $2.00. You are given handouts for your personal files that are open to read and really clear and concise. I know the suispicion is there just because of the nature of Government. I think you will find this to be a legigiment venture on behalf of Medicare Recepiants. It is a survey of services made to Medicare Patients.

I'll second that post...

Good on ya HG!
