The people of NO had a golden opportunity to clean up the city. They had the chance of starting over, fixing what had gone wrong, and rebuilding nice housing and commercial areas on what was once was a ghetto wasteland. Instead, they re-elected that idiot Negan again. I hope they enjoy their "chocolate city".
"new federal guidelines call for raising houses to reduce the damage of future floods, most returning homeowners do not have to comply or are finding ways around the costly requirement, according to city officials.".......

"New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin (D) so far has favored allowing evacuees to inhabit their old neighborhoods as they wish."
You know, I love Florence, AL, but if it's landscape were such that another disaster just like the one recently experienced was a given, I'd move. As much as I sympatize with the hell those people went through, I think it's foolish to rebuild that city and we will all pay for it when disaster strikes again. I feel like any money that has or will be used to rebuild that city would be more wisely used to help them relocate.

Agreed, Joy. I understand their wanting to go home, but let's be realistic no real measures have been taken to secure this from happening again. I learned a Bible story about the foolish man building his house upon the sand a long time ago.

Amen!
Hey I'm not from here so I feel that if they start over in New Orlean it would be wonderful the people will have a feel of being at home but with a new environment. My hometown flooded and people losted everything it was a mess, but because they were able to rebuild and some started over they were able to find peace and a belief in the state again. There maybe some people still homeless but even they I hope will have love showed to them also by the Grace of God. We all need to be more caring with everyone regardless of race, You gained nothing for yourself God gave you all that you have just to see what kinda people he raised up. How could any of you open your mouth, walk or talk without God being a part of the process. God let people lend a helping hand only to get that hand slapped when that people thought they got what they wanted. Everywhere you go people are always bragging about what they got, and how they made what they have and now people want to take that away stop being asses wake up before all you have collaspe with you still in your stew.
I love Naholeans! The quarter wasn't hurt. I cringed at the federal disaster that was allowed to happen during and after Katrina. If I were from there, and at one time I almost moved there, I would want to go home. I read the article and it didn't make sense, but I have read other articles about how the levees are not being properly rebuilt either and another disaster is surely to happen. From what I gather, the whole problem came from offshore drilling rigs slowly evaporating the wet lands which used to provide a hedge against Hurricanes. This is one of those disasters that happened, and should be learned from. I don't blame the citizens, most of them were poor and doing the best they could (and yes "chocolate" Nash, I wish you hadn't made that racist remark and Nagan hadn't either) In my eyes I saw all colors and nationalities suffering and NOBODY helping. The more sad things I have seen on CNN about the Insurance Companies who are ripping off policy holders in areas all up and down the Gulf Coast. That bothers me more than people rebuilding and going home, even if they aren't doing it right. At least they are trying, not ripping people off like the insurance companies are. I just wish them the best of luck and thank God I live on a hill, if the dam breaks I am still above sea level! THE DOG

There is nothing wrong with rebuilding, just rebuild it right. If you live in a flood zone and your house is destroyed by flood, do you rebuild it ground level again? Only if you're an idiot and idiots are running NO.
I swear I had no idea so many people were on Prozac. With regards to maddog's post if you will research it you will find experts are blaming the building of levees along the Missisippi river at fault for the shrinking wetlands.

From the Department of Interior:
"The single most important factor affecting wetlands has been the construction of levees to reduce the frequency and duration of flooding throughout much of the lower Mississippi River Valley. Levees have allowed for the large-scale conversion of forested wetlands to agriculture, the growth of urban areas, and industrial expansion in areas formerly plagued by frequent flooding. The levees have benefitted navigation by confining the river's flow to a smaller area, thereby scouring the bottom of sediment buildup more efficiently and raising water levels between the levees. The net result has been a deeper navigation channel with much less channel dredging than would have been required if the levees had not been built. "

Lord Kindred, you broke my heart. How can you be so caring on one hand and jump all over the "Crescent City" on the other. Well, that is that I guess. Can't agree on this one. As for "BER" something (can't do that thing in the front of his nick) why are you so against Prozac? Sounds like to me you should try it! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL WORLD IT WOULD BE! THE DOG
