The red light at W Montgomery and S Montgomery...

Why does Sheffield Police not crack down on the people that run this light??  I am at this red light at least 2 times a day.. What's with everyone running it!! I know SPD did do something before, but why stop?  Give these people a ticket and maybe they will stop it!!

Seems like Sheffield is way more concerned about where people put there trash cans.

It is a huge problem at that intersection and very dangerous. One of the reasons it is noticed so much at that intersection is that there is no delay whatsoever, the lights change simultaneously from red to green but it is not at all uncommon to see someone run through the red light there even 2 or 3 seconds after it has changed.

I would say the the City of Sheffield could be well funded by having police watch that intersection more closely.

I watched the light at 6th and Montgomery (in Sheffield) one afternoon. In one 30 minute period, 16 individuals flat out RAN the light.

Speaking as a former LEO, I could write $1000 a day in traffic citations in The Shoals (and have them hold up in court). COLLECTING, however, is a different matter.....as most mayors, IME, don't want to '**** off' any 'potential' voters by enforcing traffic laws.

BTW, can someone 'splain to me just why there even is a light at 6th and Montgomery?

Does the enormous amt of traffic justify one ?

I was just reading the "remembering the Shoals" website http://rememberingtheshoals.wo...g/sheffield-alabama/    and came across this picture.

OK, I'm not old enough to remember this but is this anywhere near where the infamous "Grant Hotel" was? Keep in mind I only vaguely remember the Grant Hotel. Probably somewhere in the middle 80's. A very sleazy looking place and not nearly as large as this one is.

I am not where my book on Sheffield pictures is, but I believe this is a pic of a hotel that burned back in the 20's or 30's.

The Grant burned sometime in the 90's and did not resemble the building in this picture.

Seagrass, 3/4 of the Traffic Signals in the Shoals aren't justifiable.

Like I said take it down and put up two Yield signs.

Dogsoldier, LEO's don't work traffic, they run Radar units, Judges believe Radar tickets !!! Radar can easily be falsified.

Now with all the dash cams why not work Stops signs and Traffic Signal ?

Doesn't the Judge believe Dash cams, they do in DUI and reckless driving and eluding !

I'm well aware of the 'problems' with radar as I am certified in its use.

Greetings, Seven.  The hotel you pictured is the Sheffield Hotel.  I was born in the early '40's and I remember when it burned - barely.  Must have been around '45.  It covered the block between 4th and 5th streets, and Raleigh Avenue and where Mongtomery Avenue curves into Alabama Avenue.  Also, Park Place was Hotel Muscle Shoals in an ad in the 1959 SHS yearbook.  It later became Shoals Hospital and then Park Place.  A lot of this information can be found on facebook page "I Love Sheffield"  Go way back in time on the page and seems that I recall someone posting the newspaper article about the burning of the hotel.
