House report debunks Benghazi allegations

WASHINGTON (AP) — The CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, a Republican-controlled House committee has found. Its report asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration officials.

Debunking a series of persistent allegations hinting at dark conspiracies, the two-year investigation of the politically charged incident determined that there was no intelligence failure, no delay in sending a CIA rescue team, no missed opportunity for a military rescue, and no evidence the CIA was covertly shipping arms from Libya to Syria.

A two-year congressional investigation into the deadly 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, found that while the State Department ignored warnings of terrorist threats, Obama administration appointees weren’t directly to blame.

The report, conducted by the Republican-run House Intelligence Committee and declassified Friday, debunks several conspiracies regarding the administration’s involvement in the attacks that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

The bipartisan team of investigators also praised the CIA and military personnel who responded to the attacks on Sept. 11, 2012, saying their actions saved American lives.

“With remarkable bravery and limited resources, these CIA officers left their base, scaled walls, repeatedly crawled into smoke-filled rooms, rescued their State Department colleagues … and battled trained terrorists with greater fire power to defend U.S. interests in Benghazi,” the report says.

Their action “contrasts with the failure of senior U.S. officials to provide for the defense of U.S. interests against a known and growing terrorist threat in the region,” it says.

The investigators also said senior U.S. officials “perpetuated an inaccurate story that matched the administration’s misguided view that the United States was nearing a victory over al Qaeda.”

The administration originally said the assault was spontaneous and linked to protests earlier that day in Cairo against an American-made video denigrating the prophet Muhammad. That explanation, repeated several times in the days after the attacks by Susan Rice, then U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was later disproved.

The Obama White House still remains a nest of liars!

A Senate report on the Benghazi attack that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans bolsters Obama administration critics who suspected from the start that al-Qaeda was involved and that it was not a spontaneous protest that went out of control.

The report, released Wednesday by the committee's Democratic majority, said individuals affiliated with groups such as al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula were in on the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. compound.

Whether the attack was ordered by a high-level al-Qaeda chief or planned on short notice by people on the ground remains unclear, the report said. But the report left no doubt that it was an organized terrorist attack — a fact denied for days after the deaths by President Obama and former secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

It's not unusual for the party out of power to initiate a witch hunt and the normal finding is that government officials and the political appointees supervising them are incompetent. What I don't understand is why dems are rejoicing in the incompetence of their appointees (Hillary Clinton and cronies) and why there is no backlash for the gooberment heads who chose to appease the boss in the White House by skewing the reporting of the facts of the attack to fit the reelection narrative.

The Benghazi compound was not up to the standards required by State.  Millions were wasted elsewhere. One example:

“WASHINGTON — The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has unnecessarily spent more than $700,000 on cellphone service and lost track of millions of dollars of government property, according to a State Department audit released Thursday.

Among the findings are that the embassy acquired about 1,000 more handheld radios than needed at a cost of $936,000 and that nearly half of the embassy's cellphones not assigned to anyone were being used and racking up thousands of dollars in monthly service fees, according to the State Department's Office of Inspector General.

The report also found that 159 of the embassy's 1,168 vehicles, worth $18.5 million, are unaccounted for."Embassy Baghdad has difficulty controlling and accurately accounting for its U.S. government property," the report concluded.”

Again for the hard of hearing:

Just heard that the head of the committee Mike Rogers wife has a 10 billion dollar contract with the state dept. to provide security and services to the state dept. including overseas embassy protection. It stated that Rogers has always been soft on the allegations. If Rogers had pushed hard on the allegations that would have made his wife and company look bad. He may have sold out the true to protect his wife and interest. At least Rogers has decided not to run again so he is gone. More money to be made working for his wife.

GOP Benghazi Probe Leader Has Huge Conflict of Interest

Apr, 2014 by

Congressman Mike Rogers, R-Mich., as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is charged with investigating the adequacy of security at the Benghazi compound prior to the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack.

His wife, Kristi Clemens Rogers was the president and the CEO of the company that was contracted by the State Department to provide that security.

Mrs. Rogers, until recently, served as president and CEO of Aegis LLC, the contractor to the United States Department of State for intelligence-based and physical security services.

Aegis, a British private military company with overseas offices in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Kenya, Nepal and the U.S., won a $10 billion, 5-year contract with the State Department to provide security for US diplomatic posts around the world.

Aegis describes itself as “a leading private security company, provides government and corporate clients with a full spectrum of intelligence-led, culturally-sensitive security solutions to operational and development challenges around the world.”

Congressman Rogers, who abruptly announced his intention not to seek re-election, has been criticized for dragging his feet in the Benghazi investigation. Only when pressure from backbenchers on his committee became intense did he agree to hold last week’s hearing at which former Deputy CIA Director Mike Morrell testified.

I believe Lindsey Graham was a bit too polite. The whitewash was a total crock of shiite.

Washington (CNN) -- Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, has some harsh words for the recently released Benghazi report, led by his own party.

"I think the report is full of crap," Graham told Gloria Borger on CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

"I don't believe that the report is accurate, given the role that Mike Morell (deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency at the time) played in misleading the Congress on two different occasions. Why didn't the report say that?"

The investigative report Graham is referring to was released Friday by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Michigan, and Ranking Member Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Maryland.
