I live in bham now. I miss the hell out of Ricatoni's. The only Italian restaurant down here that compares is Muffaleta's Italian Buffet. It is on the not so nice South side of town, but the food is all freshly prepped and better than any Mac grill, O garden, or Carabah's. I feel the same way about Ricatoni's. I often boast to my coworkers that Florence has the best Italian restaurant in Bama!!!! I urge them to try it out if they are ever in the Shoals area.

I looooove that place. I ate there at least 3 times weekly while I was in college in Florence.
Two dblestacks loaded and 1 dble chiliburger plz. Ha Ha!!! It has been 6 yrs since I have been there but I will have to visit them while I am home (Killen) for Christmas. Thanks for reminding me!!!
FRANK'S in Muscle Shoals. Hands down my favorite place to eat without emptying my wallet.

George's Steak Pit is great, but pricey. Speaking of pricey, the 360 Grille was a major disappointmnent. My wife and I thought we were in for a treat. I guess you pay for the view. Food and service was cold, the bread was stale, but at least the wine was ok. Pathetic...
Second time
At Frank's Italian on Wilson Dam Road in Muscle Shoals. I took my sister and mom their for lunch. The place was jumping and service was above par...
but the food was below par this time...why? don't know? The spagetti and meatball dish tasted like the sauce was watered down, and they were stretching it out...The Calamari...hey! don't even bother...small pieces of frozen grocery store brand breaded something other...most certainly not like any Calamari I have tasted...a big waste of money...so unless you just feel like you want to give them money...don't bother..The dish made with Pesto sauce taste and shrimp was not too impressive either...they charged 4.00 aor 4 pieces of med size shrimp..
So I suggest leaving the shrimp off of the pesto dish...

I Bartended at the Tower in 2000 while in college in Flotown. It was the Renisiance Grille back then. It was owned by Steven Perot back then, but shut down right before I moved to Bham. The veiw is 2nd to none for Florence. The food was very good for the money. Too bad the menu prices have gone up and more people cant enjoy the scenery that their tax dollars paid for!!
I agree with Bham MRI...I use to go to the tower about three times a week just for the view.
The food back then was a hit or miss type thing...sometimes good, sometimes less...but the view always was and is outstanding.
How they structured the tower in the re-opening, financially excluded 90% of the shoals area people from going on a regular bases. The cost of the meal far exceeds the quality of food, and runs out of the top of most locals billfold.
The business model they followed was not structured to attract the locals, but the individuals who came to the golf course and other events. Those individuals spend money like a drunken sailor while on their vacation. So! Bonner said...lets shanghi those billfolds...and they do...along with some locals who go there with a smile and leave with a grimace, like they have had it shoved too far... without KY jelly. But look at the bright side...if you have every gone there...you will never be able to say again...you have never been S------

So I don't patronize them anymore...
Too many other food establishments that have better records for producing quality meals..

I LOVE Sweet Peppers!!! I rate it a 10... everything I have gotten there has been good, but my favorite is the stuffed baked potato. It is huge and I make 2 meals out of it... YUMMMMMMMMMMM.....

I saw on WAFF(?) that Sweet Peppers got a rotten rating. I like their food too, but I will not patronize an establishment that doesn't keep an excellent health rating. I got food poisoning once, and that was one too many...

Your exactly right!!! I went once, but I won't go back. Three meals and three drinks plus tip was right at $200. The view and the ride were O.K. but they weren't worth that. It costs more too eat there than it did in the French Quarter in New Orleans (pre-Katrina). We went back in sept., when the fair was in town. I , jokingly, told my wife "we could have gone to the fair, ate three hotdogs and rode the ferris wheel for twenty bucks. Big Grin
We stopped at the tower last week for a glass of wine after dinner at Franks Italian Grille in Muscle Shoals (My personal favorite). We ordered 2 glasses of house wine. I was going to leave the waitress $20 for the wine (including a tip). However when she brought our ticket it was $28.06 without tip. Needless to say, this will not be our night cap spot again. I know, I know, the tower is for the tourist, business, and the golf traveler, however it would be nice to have a piano bar for the locals in town.

Health ratings... do you even know what that NUMBER means? It could mean a leaky faucet, a drain not running correctly, a dumpster lid not closed properly. The VAST amount of low health scores that you see on that paper has NOTHING to do with the cleanliness of their kitchens or their food.

Well, thank you for your insight, KS. Please forgive me for stating a fact.
If you visit Gulf Shores or Orange Beach ever, there are two great places to eat.

Bubba's on Hwy 182 near Orange Beach, just past what's left of the state park, has great lunch specials, large portions, and great food. Hush puppies are a little small and bottled beer only, but the food, service, and atmosphere is great.

For a good dinner, go about 2 miles past Bubba's to Cotton's. They have a great bar that makes excellent martinis. Good portions, good service, and the food is awesome. It's a little more expensive, but worth it.

You and I seem to have the same type of taste buds, as I found myself agreeing with a lot of critiques on the local restaurant flair..

Bunyans..Their Slaw Dogs have just never appealed to me...tried it once...and could not fiqure out what the big deal was...Given a choice between a Bunyan Slaw Dog and a Foodland Supermarket Deli, premade hot dog on sale for .50 would really cause me a quandry..

Walton's on 101...Found the Steak OK, never tried the Fish...Service was friendly and fast, even on a Busy Saturday night...I like to drink a beer or wine with my meals...so sitting a food establishment in a dry location, where you make a tremendous amount of money off of alcohol with your steak or fish...doesn't really make to much sense to me...

Ricks BBQ...Living proof some people have dead taste buds...and would think a brown paper bag was DELICOUSSSSS, if you put BBQ Sauce on it...
Its got to be a front for something...other wise I don't see how they stay in business..

Staggs Grocery...Yep! The Standard World Wide for Cheese Burgers to achieve...Folks! if you never tried one..you can get a little taste of just what heaven may be like...if you are by chance on the way to heaven...stop and get a bag full for St. Peter and the rest of the boys...it just might get ya through the door...when other wise...well! OK! at least it seems to work for our Washington and State Politicians..
Did not know about the Breakfast thou...I am on my way next week...will report back to you guys..

O'Bryans Steak House...on River Road, Muscle Shoals...always got good steak..Salad Bar plentiful and Fresh...good working man prices...Country type atmosphere....does not serve beer or wine with meal..very casual dress..as some of the folks you see chowing down, it is obvious they just came from a hard day at it...

Legends...have not tried the steak in Florence...waiting for the staff to settle into a groove...too new yet...ya know ...let them get the bugs out at someone elses expense...However..did try the one in Lawrenceburg...found it very good...however, thought the Chapparal Steakhouse, just north of them on 43 was better and cheaper in price...

Now! Folks! I am an admitted "DOG- AHOLIC" I crave a good hot dog...and whereever I go...no matter what city...I try their local flavor..
So! I will be reporting on some the local Hot Dog Establishment for ya in the coming days..
TRY BROOK'S IN MUSCLE SHOALS.IT'S A LITTLE JOINT,BUT,MAJOR BIG ON BBQ AND YOU WON'T BEAT THEIR HOTDOGS,NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO!!!!

The Omelets are large with lots of ingredients...the Biscuits...lite...fluffy and just like your moma use to make...I highly recommend you give them a try...you won't regret it...
I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THIS PLACE IS????
To PawsPalace
If you know where Jackson Highway intersects with 2nd st in Sheffield, simply head west on 2nd toward downtown sheffield. The Country Porch will be on your right about 1/4 mile...
They have probably one of the best, if not the best breakfast in that area..
A sure way to locate a good eating place is to count the number of Pickemup trucks in the parking lot.
