Right-wing media renew assault on unemployment insurance
8 hours and 43 minutes ago — 8 Comments

Fox Business' Charles Payne and MSNBC's Pat Buchanan both promoted the myth that extending unemployment insurance disincentivizes unemployed individuals from searching for work.
\......................................................................

Now the reason I posted this was the shock in discovering that MSNBC is now considered 'right-wing'. Don't tell Olbermann.

Unlike you so called Fair and Balanced FIXED NEWS, MSNBC is NOT scared to have a variety of contributors with differenting views. You just made an a-s-s of your self, but twitch your nose and make it go away, after all you claim to be a witch even if Christine O'Donnell doesn't, b50m, wicked witch of waterloo.
I think we're in quite a predicament in this country with the jobs situation. There aren't any jobs in this country - not enough to to make a dent in the unemployment rate. I'm afraid high unemployment is here to stay because businesses are holding on to their cash...and I don't think it has anything to do with 'Obamacare' or taxes; I think there are simply no positions to be created.

Unfortunately, the unemployed couldn't even get a job in China right now - you know, the country we are rebuilding, the one that is going to surpass us in every way very soon, when our own country is becoming third world. I read that, because Americans have stopped buying so much of the imported stuff China makes, fewer jobs are now available for the Chinese. They're fighting over our old manufacturing jobs there!

Does receiving unemployment benefits discourage recipients from seeking jobs? I'm sure some recipients get lazy; I'm sure some have just given up because, again, there aren't enough jobs available. Most people want to find work but where do they go? They can't all go to McDonald's (who's not hiring either).

It doesn't matter because the benefits can't be extended forever, so someone needs to come up with an idea, fast. I think we should just prepare ourselves for a situation that's going to get a lot worse in this country, very soon. So just be careful where you walk because you might just trip over a sleeping homeless person.

Bwaahahahahahaha! Ouch! my sides hurt from that near violent outburst of laughter! That's the funniest thing I've seen all morning! And I've been up for thirty whole minutes now. BTW what's a "differenting" view? Never mind, It's always great to see "rocky" dishing out comedy gold and showing himself to be the real a** in a thread. Wink

Makes sense to me, wonka. The wealthy are really hurting in this country. Yes, I know, they need the tax cuts extended to create more jobs and I'm sure that's suddenly going to happen - even though tax cuts have never created jobs in the past.

Maybe the wealthy will at least start giving more to the Salvation Army and other fine charities - you know, just to help ensure the homeless stay far away from their enclaves.
Yes, the evil rich republicans. Who have not taken office yet . Pelosi is still in charge, had she actually put this up in time under normal rules, all she needed was a simply majority. She waited on purpose to make it a showdown. Why did they wait until a lame duck session when they knew in July that the extension would end Dec 1? Seems to me congress is too busy playing games as usual.

WASHINGTON -- The House of Representatives on Thursday voted down a measure that would have reauthorized extended unemployment insurance for another three months, leaving no clear path forward to prevent the benefits from lapsing as scheduled on Nov. 30.

Without a reauthorization, the Labor Department estimates that two million long-term unemployed will prematurely stop receiving benefits before the end of the year.

"I think it's a sad moment," said Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) after the vote. "It appalls me that the Republicans keep pitching and pitching and pitching the tax cuts for the rich and won't join in a bill to help people keep their homes and not have to live in their cars."

The bill was brought to the floor under a "suspension of the rules," meaning it required approval from two-thirds of the House. It failed 258 to 154, with mostly Democratic support. Twenty-one Republicans voted in favor and 11 Democrats voted nay.

I don't like the games that are played in Washington, either. Both sides do it and it's all about power, not what's best for the American people.

THE TRUTH
It is a full time job just debunking the garbage from b50m, not to mention the lies of Cage/Jobe. But look at the source they get ALL their information from Fox and friends, These nuts don't fall far from the walnut tree. What went on in June, wicked witch of Waterloo, b50m?

Unemployment benefits extension denied June 30: Senate Republicans defeat jobs bill
July 1st, 2010 12:52 am ET.
Unemployment benefits extension denied again June 30, 2010 An unemployment benefits extension has been denied again. The third time is not a charm when it comes to approving an unemployment benefits measure as Senate Republicans filibustered the bill on June 30.

The unemployment extension bill would continue to provide unemployment to millions of people across the country.

On Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., who supports the bill, had to vote "nay" to take a procedural step that would allow for a revote. Even though the tally stood at 58-38, Democrats were in reality just one vote short of the 60 needed to beat the filibuster.

Last week a large jobs bill that included the extension of weekly unemployment benefits was defeated by Republicans with a vote of 57-41, just short of the 60 votes needed to pass the bill. On Tuesday, June 28, a standalone bill on unemployment benefits was squashed, 261-155.

The standalone bill that was brought forward on Tuesday was introduced by Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow introduced the standalone bill which was cosponsored by Democratic Sens. Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Al Franken (Minn.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.).

Only two Republicans voted in favor on Wednesday: moderates Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine.

Is there a chance that this unemployment bill could pass with round four? The AP reports that passage "seems assured next month once a replacement is in place for Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., who died on Monday."

The unemployed are not in a good position right now. According to the Labor Department, without an unemployment extension, 1.7 million of the 7 million people who have been without a job for at least six months will have lost their unemployment benefits by the end of this week.

News of the unemployment benefits extension being rejected again hits locals hard here in Rhode Island. With an unemployment rate hovering around 12.3 percent, RI is in fourth place behind the three states with the highest unemployment rates: Nevada, Michigan and California.
N.P.

“Just a little more than a year ago, our President Barack Obama stood on the steps of the Capitol, just a little more than a year ago and called for swift, bold action now to restore our economic growth. In his budget, he set out a blueprint founded on three pillars for our prosperity: a highly-educated workforce, the future, a clean energy economy, good-paying jobs, and quality, affordable health care for all Americans. And he saw these critical building blocks as engines of job creation and economic growth.

“Answering that call, and responding to the needs of America’s counties, we passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, creating and saving up to 2 million jobs so far, and more to come".

“But our work is far from complete. We know that. Congress will stay focused on our top priority: putting Americans to work. And I said putting Americans to work, I didn’t say putting Americans back to work. Because we have far too people who will have no job, never had a job that they would go back too.

“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy. Furthermore, we believe that health care reform, again I said at the beginning of my remarks, that we sent the three pillars that the President’s economic stabilization and job creation initiatives were education and innovation—innovation begins in the classroom—clean energy and climate, addressing the climate issues in an innovative way to keep us number one and competitive in the world with the new technology, and the third, first among equals I may say, is health care, health insurance reform. Health insurance reform is about jobs. This legislation alone will create 4 million jobs, about 400,000 jobs very soon.

THE ANALYSIS
You have to break down everything that is posted by Cage/Jobe. The first part is opinion, the second spin is from Nancy Pelosi about the healthcare bill, Both are actually very good examples of the methodical and determined efforts from both the president and speaker of the house to not only lift the country from the brink of depression but also to reform a broken healthcare system. The highlighted use of the words jobs are Cage/Jobe's jab at the unemployment rate. If NOTHING had been done, as has been the blueprint from the party of no, how high would the unemployment rate be? And can any of the right wing radicals give examples of CONCRETE proposals from republicans for job creation? The clock will start running the day the new congress is sworn in. That will be my new mantra at the bottom of all posts.

41 days until Republican majority in congress:
WHERE ARE THE JOBS???? Roll Eyes
