Rocky Horror Picture Show

GOOD MORNING!

Waking up this beautiful morning after having a wonderful evening in beautiful downtownSavannah.  Last night, with the kiddies safely occupied, my wife and I strolled the beautiful squares ofSavannah, ate some delicious Chinese food, danced to an amazing Stevie Ray-Vaughn knock-off guitarist and his combo, and took in a show.

You see, one of my good friends is an amazing actor.  And he was in this incredible show, playing “Dr. Frankenfurter” in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.  WHAT A RIOT !  The storyline is cheerfully decadent, the music excellent, and the acting was amazing.  If anyone is inSavannahnext tonight, I highly recommend the show.

But as I was walking out the door of the show, I got to thinking about the whole stigma surrounding people like my friend.  He’s gay.  And this really seems to freak out a whole lot of people in our society.

So I was thinking…

Perhaps, as human beings, we should be a little more tolerant of everyone.  Possibly, if we recognize the good in a person, if we try to understand them, we can learn to like them, to respect them.  And possibly, if a person is liked and respected, that person can live a better, happier life.

And, as religionists, as some who read this forum are… perhaps we should try to live like Jesus, the greatest religionist who ever lived, would look at this person, with love and compassion, just like he looked at every other person on the planet, just as we might hope he would look at us.

So perhaps, instead of having to force ourselves into the intolerance of this ancient tome, or that man written scripture, we should attempt to think for ourselves, and to try, for ourselves, to live our lives in the manner which Jesus lived his.  Remember, Jesus left no writing on this world.  And he did it for a reason.  He knew that human beings, being what they are, would seize anything he left and worship it, that THING, in lieu of trying to live their lives like he tried so hard to teach them to.  Look at all the fuss generated by the so called “Shroud of Turin” for goodness sake.  There is proof of why he did what he did.

So le us, as religionists, follow the lead of the greatest religionist who will ever live on this world.  Let us learn something by the way he lived his life, rather than making so much noise about how he died.

The world would thank us, and we would actually accomplish something for a change…

I'm not sure what you are asking here. First are you refering to only Christians or all religions? Also are you asking for people to show compassion for homosexuals or are you asking for "religionist" to accept this type of lifestyle as normal? There is a difference between showing compassion and believing homosexuality is normal.

How are religious people not tolerant of your friend?  What Gingee said is the truth.   He has as much right to live as a homosexual as a person to believe homosexuality is a sin based on religious teachings.    Now a religious person doesn't have the right to force a person not to be a homosexual and a a homosexual doesn't have a right to force a religious person to believe his or her behavior is acceptable.  And why are we knocking Christians?  Bugger some guy in a Muslim country and see what they do to you.

`It's sort of funny how all these enlightened politically correct elitist libtards fawn over the Muslims and rejoice as the Muslim Brotherhood takes over one country after another.  A religion that that practices genital mutilation of females, murders women calling it "honor" killings, stones people in the street, and uses women as sex slaves.  They take issue with "fundamentalist" Christians and their backyards ways and bend over backward to accommodate a faith of murderers and abusers of women.

The last thing you could call me is an elitist libtard and I don't rejoice in muslims taking over other countries. That is their problem. I have enough to worry about knowing the religious nutjobs, dem and republican , want to take over mine. Interesting that you would say something like that when in your previous post you pointed out bascially how lucky homosexuals are that they don't live in a muslim country because of what would happen to them there, but yet you didn't "decry" what you thought would happen.  Sometimes that line between the radical religious in this country and the radical muslims gets blurred. Neither group appeals to me.

Well when you refer to the bible as a a intolerant, man written tomb and suggest we should think for ourselves I can easily conclude you are a part of Deep Fat's atheist get along gang.  Most Christians see the bible as the word of God and you've replaced it with some sort of personal system of morality complete with presuming to know Jesus' intentions.

Jesus taught that we are all children of the same God.  Call him Allah, God, or whatever.

It was up to his followers to revise his teachings to suit their own morality and then brand their version as the "word of God"

*****

Jesus never called His Father "Allah" and He never would use that name, since it is the name of the false god followed by those who deny the divinity of Jesus Christ Himself.  It is  difficult for people like you to understand that, since you are too trifling to study and learn the facts concerning these kinds of very fundamental differences.  The God of the Bible is NOT the God of Islam.

Hi Gingee,

Since you are new to the Religion Forum, possibly you are not aware that the religion Al Williams teaches is the Urantia Book religion - a New Age occult religion.   Supposedly, back in the 1950s, extraterrestrials gave a book, the Urantia Book bible, to earth people.  Sort of like how the angel Moroni gave the Book of Mormons to teenage Joseph Smith.

In this Urantia Book bible, they have invented other gods and another person they call Jesus (they also have an extraterrestrial name for him) -- and what they preach is pure, unadulterated New Age religion.  Although, what they teach is somewhat similar to the Mormon religion -- with multiple gods, a false Jesus Christ, and multiple earths.

And, all other religions, even Christianity, are false -- according to Al Williams and his Urantia Book bible.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Makes as much sense as anything else.

Interesting.

I started a thread encouraging everyone to love one another and respect each others' views.

Like Jesus did.

Now we are talking about ailiens and arguing if God should be called God or Allah.

Amazing.

I think that the Universal Father is so much greater than either the Christian concept of God, or the Muslim concept of Allah.  I think that the highest aspirations of mankind can only scratch the surface above the surface of what God truely is

We, being created, will never, can never concieve fully of the creator.

But we seem perfectly happy to fight amongst ourselves on what his name is.

(smile)

It's a lot easier, after all than trying to live his will.

I have no problem with church people thinking that homosexuality is not normal. They believe a lot of crazy stuff. I do have a problem, however, when they try to keep homosexuals from having the same rights that they do, like marrying who they love, and having jobs, and being  able to attend school without being ridiculed and treated with intolerance every day. These actions are almost always committed for "religious" reasons. Religious people are some of the most intolerant folks that I know. A visit to most churches in the South on any Sunday will validate this. The most segregated and closed society in America today is the church gathering on Sunday morning.

Thank you Jimi.

Homosexuality is not some type of foul disease.  It is not blasphomy.  It is who a person is.

There are good people and bad people of every persuasion.  Mostly good.  Almost all good in fact.  But a few bad apples can cause a lot of trouble for everyone else (look no further than Bill).  And a lot of the "bad" homosexuals most likely would not have turned out that way if they had not faced hatred, bigorty and rejection at the hands of their "loving" brethern.

Just something to think about.

I agree Jimi:

Ron’s rapier sharp wit is certainly on display !

Good on you Ron!

Interesting, however, that his response to, what could have been a thought-provoking question, was an irrelevant and mean spirited quip.

Even more interesting that, in an earlier post on this thread, he certainly posed as a champion for mainstream westernized Christianity, and now he is willing to throw his God under a bus rather than engaged in an important discussion on values and our civilization’s mores.

Also interesting is the absence of all the other Christians on this thread.

Between Ronnie’s ugliness and their absence, I guess that is more telling of the things brought up in this thread than any meaningful discussion could be.
