Since Ms. C mentioned this I'd been wondering what the deal was. It seems the writers mentioned "Oriental women" like fish heads. Is this a big deal. Apparently here in the Shoals.
This is in reference to my original screenname here, which was RolyPolyFishHead, it's the cheesy 80's song Fox mentions above. I was reprimanded for having it as a screenname, because it is a racial slur. I had no idea at the time, but someone on here reported it. Here is the original message I received from EH:
"Hi,
I'm sure this is not your intent, but "fish head" is considered to be an ethnic slur toward Asian people. For that reason, will you please change your user name? Simply taking that part off the end will be fine.
On the main forum page, there is a place to do so right above the Member Agreement.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. EH"
I wrote her back and apologized, explaining I had no idea, and this is how she responded:
"I understand - I had never heard of it either, but it was brought to my attention.
I appreciate your cooperation, and thank you for your participation in the TimesDaily.com forums. EH"
I actually have a good idea as to whom reported it, but I'm not positive, so I'll keep it to myself.
It's just interesting, because a well known racial slur was used not too long ago, and the moderators let it stay.
