I would like to recommend this Opinion Piece from the Independent UK.
The discussion involves what has been lost by Dangling Saddam at the end of a rope.

Just how many people does one have to murder before he gets what he deserves? Saddam paid for what crimes he commited against his own people. <snip>

Max, I reallllllly don't want to get into a death penalty debate. BUT, in this particular case, the crimes Saddam committed were not done in a vacuum. Others were involved. Saddam Cannot Speak from the Grave, and His Silence may allow some CONSPIRATORS in the Murders Commited to go free, with reputation intact, and do the same again.

I am in favor of the death penalty, and I really get irritated to see people here commit horrendous crimes, get sentenced and then live for 20 years before any death penalty is thought about being carried out.
But in this case, Ed, you make such a good point, that after I read that article, I have to agree with you. I just would have to wonder that if he only got Life In Prison, just where would that have been, and how could we have gotten those 'secrets' from him?

I have found it odd how so many of the administration who brought this war about courted Saddam so heavily just a few years back.
Yeah that man (Saddam) took some secrets to his grave.
