I would like to recommend this Opinion Piece from the Independent UK.
The discussion involves what has been lost by Dangling Saddam at the end of a rope.

Just how many people does one have to murder before he gets what he deserves? Saddam paid for what crimes he commited against his own people. I see no problem with the Iraq's own trial and the sentence carried out.
If here, in the good old U.S. of A. a sentence of death was carried out as swiftly as it was for Saddam THEN, the rate of murders might just go down.

Yeah...talk about personal attacks by me....

My take: I wished the Iraqi's (THEY hung him; Saddam was tried in their court, not ours. Saddam got a better trial than he gave any of his people while he was ruling his roost) had kept him alive for the sake of history and so Saddam could stand trial for: Kurd gassing in 1988; slaughter of Shi'ite's in 1991 in Southern Iraq (the Marsh Arabs); trial by Kuwait for his invasion in 1990; trial by the Iranians for Saddam starting the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war (yes, even the nasty Iranians deserved a shot at him).

Again, at least he got a trial. He was deceintly fed, deceintly treated, deceintly tried, then deciently HANGED. Saddam was a common oulaw, nothing more, nothing less. Like Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, Mussolini, Milosevik, etc. he slaughtered people, ruled by the sword, and (save Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung, and Stalin) met his demise in a grusome but just way (Hitler committed suicide...but would have been drawn and quartered by Stalin or even us if captured).

Upon news of his hanging, I popped open a beer (a rarity as I don't habitually drink; in fact, it was a microbrew given to me as a gift) and drank in memory of those from 1991-present involved in removing him.

May he rot in Hades....and may his 72 Virgins look like Rosie O'Donut and Janet Reno...

Max, I reallllllly don't want to get into a death penalty debate. BUT, in this particular case, the crimes Saddam committed were not done in a vacuum. Others were involved. Saddam Cannot Speak from the Grave, and His Silence may allow some CONSPIRATORS in the Murders Commited to go free, with reputation intact, and do the same again.

I am in favor of the death penalty, and I really get irritated to see people here commit horrendous crimes, get sentenced and then live for 20 years before any death penalty is thought about being carried out.

But in this case, Ed, you make such a good point, that after I read that article, I have to agree with you. I just would have to wonder that if he only got Life In Prison, just where would that have been, and how could we have gotten those 'secrets' from him?

I am not so sure either. But to be honest here, I have really been trying to broaden my horizens by watching nothing but FOX news,... what an eye=opener that is.

I still watch it, but thankfully there ARE other channels that dont try shoving crap down the throats of the people who may not KNOW any different.

I am practicing a balancing act with the news, LOL.

But Ed, you are right, I am not so sure that EVERYONE has gotten their just dues yet. I am just too 'dumb' to know how anyone could ever find that out, lol.

I have found it odd how so many of the administration who brought this war about courted Saddam so heavily just a few years back.
Yeah that man (Saddam) took some secrets to his grave.

WOW, Smurph... that is HYPOCRASY at its best huh? Yes, he took secrets to his grave, but I just bet there are many people in this world (hidden of course) who knows them. He did NOT stand alone, and that, my friend, is the scary part! For US anyway.
