This story put a smile on my face, Sea Shepherd is a violent eco-terrorist outfit and I am glad to see that efforts to end their dangerous assaults are stepping up. Oh...and they shouldn't whine about the nose of their boat being whacked off, seems expected when you pull right in front of a much larger ship in rough seas.

i for one root for the sea shepherd, why you may ask? well mainly because the japs arent suppose to be killing whales for meat and blubber, but they are. they claim its "scientific research" but i for one think thats a pile of crap. you break the rules you should be punished. call it "eco-terrorism" if you will but the japs are breaking the rules with the whaling. its amazing how you people defend that practice, yet if the tables were turned on something that was happening here it'd most likely be a different story.

What the whalers are doing is legal, it is not even questionable because the law is very clear that it is legal and the meat along with the byproducts can legally be sold. The only thing is that it is not only the whalers, these guys go after seal hunts and fisherman too additionally these guys have even gone after the Inuit people on whale hunts that were perfectly legal. They have rammed and sunk several fishing boats with little consequence. Several of the Sea Shepherd “activists” including Paul Watson have been arrested and convicted for their criminal activity.

if it's Legal then yea i can see people being against them. i was just going from what i saw on the show and they were making it seem like they were doing an illegal practice.

My understanding is that it is illegal to hunt whales for commercial purposes. It is legal to kill them for scientific research and then sell the byproducts. Essentially, there is a giant loophole in the anti-whaling laws. The Sea Shepherds contention is that these Japanese whaling ships are obviously commercial enterprises, and are not acting in accordance with the research exemption, even if the Japanese government sanctions it as research.

I don't know the depths of what these guys do to stop the whalers, but as long as they don't intentionally assault anyone, I see no problem with them trying to prevent what they believe to be an illegal activity.

Well, the do intentionally assault the whalers. Some of what they have done can be read about at the following link:

It may be a loophole but it is legal.
I watched the video, the speed boat looks like it's idling in the water and the Japanese vessel turns towards it and hits it. Someone could have been killed.

I'm not a fan of the Sea Sheppard because the captain is a nut who cares more for whales than the lives of his crew. I think that the Japanese are taking advantage of loophole in international law and claiming they are doing scientific research, but you don't need to kill hundreds of whales a year to find out what they're eating.

I've watched the Whale Wars show, I'm constantly amazed at how dumb some of those guys are. They seem to think with emotion first instead of reason. I agree with their reason for being out there and I applaud their efforts in trying to stop illegal whaling, however they would be more effective if they weren't so dumb and their captain didn't have such an ego.

Then by the same argument can we kill abortion doctors?
