It looks like they would have told the employees or something.

Nope no truth to that, that's where the new Super Hooter's is going.
The Kmart-Sears deal
Two of nation's oldest retailers set $11B merger. Will lower prices, better merchandise follow?

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Kmart is buying Sears, Roebuck & Co. for $11 billion in a deal that will marry two of the nation's oldest retailers that had trouble keeping up with the changes in American culture around them.

The deal, announced Wednesday morning, will create the third-largest retailer in the country. The new company, known as Sears Holdings, will be based at Sears headquarters outside Chicago.

While the new company will operate both Sears and Kmart stores, "several hundred" Kmarts will be converted to Sears, Sears Chairman Alan Lacy said at a news conference. The companies currently operate about 3,500 stores combined.
Oh, the truths we receive from autistic savants. I always keep in mind the vision of Rain Man when he said, "K-Mart S**ks." Poor selection, not-the-lowest prices.

I realize many refuse to frequent the many megamart locations whose headquarters are based in Arkansas, but volume buying creates lower prices and, during these penny-pinching times, I need to save all I can.
Willing to bet someone saw a Sears Essentials store elsewhere, which is just a Kmart, just with the Sears name and assumed that all will eventually go that way. Since several stores closed recently the closure of one made it juicier.

Essentials stores are like Kmarts with a Green K. just concept stores. A sign of a direction they may take, but not the absolute way the company will go.

So I don't visit them often.

You're right. That store could definitely use a revamp in all those areas!

I can remember the days when K-Mart spanked WalMart consistently but those days are most likely gone forever. I've also heard the rumors about K-Mart forever and a day and frankly the way they run the stores and treat the people only reinforces that so it's actually amazing that they can remain in business. The ONLY thing that K-Mart has going for them is it's a lot easier getting into the stores. (not that many people as are at WalMart).

Concerning the Rest Rooms that's one way you can gauge a stores concern for it's patrons and in many cases it's own employees. K-Mart apparently cares very little for both.

The former K-Mart building, from what I understand, will sometime in the future be the home to a Florence location of Academy Sports which is also owned by D*icks Sporting Goods.

Unfortunately as I was afraid of when Sears was acquired by K-Mart's  new owner, Sears is heading down a sad path of destruction.  The Sears, Florence mall locations, has cut it's operating hours to where it closes at 6PM most all nights even though the mall remains open.  The following article, I feel, unfortunately confirms the not to distant demise of Sears.

Academy is NOT owned by D*cks Sporting Goods. Two completely separate companies. No relationship whatsoever.

I stand corrected.  I was told that by what I considered a reliable source, whom I contacted with your information and correction and he then said he had made a mistake and meant that ****s would be purchasing Sports Authority and he got it confused with Academy Sports.  Thanks for the correction.

The last I read on the subject Academy Sports will be completely tearing down the existing (old) KMart Building and construct a new building for Academy Sports business.    IF they waited long enough I'm sure there would be one of the large store spots at the mall available for I don't see SEAR's making it too much longer.

Looks like many K-Mart workers have got the feeling that the writing is on the wall and that K-Mart is not going to be there that much longer.  I doubt that SEARS will not be far behind.  I just don't know who is taking down who?  Is Sears drawing down K-Mart or K-Mart drawing down SEARS?
